Clearing App Cache / Data:

NOTE: In case one of your applications is acting up; freezes, crashes or otherwise isn't working as intended, then you could be able to fix these problems by wiping the application's cache or data.

WARNING! Clearing an application's data will result in the deletion of all personal information stored within the app, including saved games, credit card and login information, settings, high scores, profiles etc. As such, it's recommended that you first try fixing the app by clearing it's cache.

  1. While viewing the home screen tap "Apps"
  2. Go to "Settings" and tap "Apps"
  3. Swipe to the "Downloaded" screen if necessary
  4. Select the desired application
  5. Tap "Clear cache" and then tap "OK"
  6. If clearing the cache hasn't helped, tap "Clear data" and press "OK" to confirm

Wiping the Phone's Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your Nexus 6 is not working as intended and you're considering master resetting it, then you might want to try and clear the phone's cache partition to see if this solves the issues. Unlike a factory reset, clearing the cache partition will not result in the removal of personal information stored on the internal memory. To wipe the cache:

  1. Turn off the smartphone
  2. Press and hold the "Volume Down" button, and then press and hold "Power" as well
  3. Release the buttons when the smartphone turns on
  4. Use the "Volume Down" button to navigate to and highlight "Recovery mode"
  5. Press "Power" to select the highlighted option. An Android with a red exclamation mark should now be displayed
  6. Press and hold the "Power" key and then press and release the "Volume Up" button
  7. From the recovery menu, use the volume keys to navigate to and highlight "Wipe cache partition"
  8. Press "Power" to select the highlighted option
  9. Your smartphone will now reboot automatically

Enabling Safe Mode and Removing an App:

NOTE: If one of the 3rd party applications you've downloaded is causing issues on your phone and is preventing you from uninstalling it while running processes in the background, then you can easily dispose of the app by first entering safe mode. In safe mode all third party applications are disabled. To enable safe mode and uninstall an application:

  1. Wake your phone and then press and hold the "Power" key
  2. From the dialog box, tap and hold "Power off"
  3. At the Safe Mode prompt, tap "OK" to confirm and wait for your device to reboot in safe mode
  4. Once it restarts, the phone should display a "Safe mode" message in the lower-left corner of the screen
  5. To remove an app, first open the apps drawer
  6. Go to "Settings" and tap "Apps"
  7. Access the "Downloaded" section and select the app you wish to remove
  8. Tap "Uninstall" and press "OK" to confirm
  9. To exit safe mode, press and hold the "Power" button and tap "Power off"
