WARNING! Master resetting your phone will result in the deletion of all your personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory. This includes ringtones, contacts, apps, downloaded content etc. Furthermore all settings will be set to factory values.

NOTE: You can visit this thread to learn how you can back up and restore data on the Moto X Style before applying the master reset.

Master Reset via Settings:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Swipe to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset
  4. Tap “Factory data reset
  5. Assuming your phone is protected by a password / PIN etc. enter the necessary information to proceed
  6. Tap “Reset Phone” to confirm and wait for the process to complete

Master Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: If you are unable to reset your phone via Settings using the method above (perhaps your phone crashes, freezes, doesn’t boot up etc.) then you should be able to factory reset it via Recovery. You can access Recovery by performing a combination of button presses:

  1. Turn off your phone
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume Up” at the same time
  3. When the screen turns on, release all hardware buttons
  4. In the menu with blue lines of text, press “Volume down / up” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “Recovery
  5. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  6. When you see an Android robot with a red exclamation mark on-screen, press and hold “Power” and “Volume Up”. You should now gain access to the “Android recovery system” screen
  7. From the Recovery screen, press the volume keys to navigate to and highlight “Wipe data / factory reset
  8. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  9. Highlight “Yes – erase all user data” and press “Power” to confirm
