Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings
  3. Under “Device”, tap “Battery
  4. Tap “Menu” and enable “Battery saver

Lower Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Open the “Settings” menu
  2. Under “Device”, tap “Display
  3. If necessary, turn off “Adaptive brightness
  4. Tap “Brightness level” and drag the brightness slider to the left side of the screen
  5. Go back to “Display” and tap “Sleep
  6. Select a lower value, like “15 seconds

Disable Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS:

NOTE: By turning off the phone’s connectivity features when they are not in use (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS), you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down from the home screen, using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” tiles to turn off these features
  3. For more location (GPS) options, open “Settings” > “Location
  4. Tap “Mode” > “Battery saving
  5. To turn off Hotspot, go back to “Settings
  6. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks
  7. Tap “Tethering & Mobile hotspot” and disable the option

Use 2G Connectivity:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve energy until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G connectivity.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Under “Wireless & networks”, tap “More
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type
  4. Enable “2G

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Third party apps can run regular background processes, and thus they can affect battery life even when they are not in use. By removing or disabling third party apps you don’t use, you might improve battery life.

  1. Go to “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Device
  3. Tap “Apps” and access “Downloaded
  4. Select the desired app
  5. Tap “Force stop” / “Disable” to disable the app
  6. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall” > “OK

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By setting your accounts / phone to sync less data or less often, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Personal
  4. Tap “Accounts
  5. Select an account type and clear the check boxes next to the sync options you want to disable

Keep the Software Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can improve battery life, so it’s recommended to keep your phone up to date at all times. To check for OS updates:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Scroll to and tap “About phone
  4. Tap “System updates” and, if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to install available updates (NOTE: the process might require a reboot)
