Back Up App Data:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch “Settings”
- Tap “Backup & reset” under “Personal”
- To back up app data to your Google account, turn on “Back up my data”
- To allow app data to be restored automatically upon signing in with your Google backup account, turn on “Automatic Restore”
Back Up Contacts:
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to and tap “Accounts”
- Select the account type and account you want to use for sync
- Check “Contacts” if necessary
- Tap “menu” > “Sync now”
NOTE: Contacts backed up using the method above can be automatically restored the next time you sign in with your backup account.
Back Up Media Files on a Windows Computer:
- Connect the Moto Z Play to your computer via USB
- Turn on “Media device (MTP)” / “File Transfer (MTP)” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
- Open the File Explorer on the computer
- Use the Explorer to locate the media files on your phone
- Copy the desired files and transfer them on your PC storage
- Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB port
Restore Media Files from a Windows Computer:
- Connect the Motorola device to your computer via USB
- Turn on “Media device (MTP)” / “File Transfer (MTP)” at the prompt or from the “notification” area
- Open the File Explorer on the computer
- Locate the media file backups on the PC storage and copy them
- Paste the files on the phone storage, preferably in the “Media” folder or the directories they originate from
- Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect it from the USB connector
