WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory will be lost. This includes media files and ringtones, downloaded content, contacts, apps etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values. However, data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected.
NOTE: Before you factory reset your device, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up and restore data.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Open the “Apps” drawer on the home screen
- Launch “Settings”
- Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
- If your device is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN / password / pattern etc. to proceed
- Tap “Reset phone” to confirm and follow any additional on-screen prompts that may come next
Factory Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise doesn’t allow you to reset it via settings, alternatively you can try resetting the device from the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed after performing a specific button combination.
- First, turn off the phone as you normally would
- Next, press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
- After 5 or more seconds, release both buttons and you should immediately see the “Boot Mode Selection Menu”
- Navigate the menu using “Volume Down” and highlight “Recovery”
- Press “Volume Up” to select the highlighted option
- Wait for the screen to turn black and for the “No command” line
- At the “No command” screen, press and release “Power” and “Volume up” simultaneously several times until you gain access to “Android Recovery”
- Press “Volume down” to highlight “Wipe data / factory reset”
- Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
- Select to delete “Userdata only” or “Userdata + personalized content”
- Press “Power” to confirm
- After the process is done “Reboot system now” should be highlighted
- Press “Power” to confirm restart your device
Check for Software Updates:
NOTE: After you have reset your phone, it’s recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:
- Go to “Settings”
- Scroll to “System”
- Tap “About phone” > “System updates”
- Check if a new update is available, and if applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and install any available updates. NOTE: This process will require you to reboot your device
