Back Up App Data:
- Open the apps drawer and launch “Settings”
- Tap “Backup & reset” under “Personal”
- Turn on “Back up my data” to back up app data to your Google account
- Turn on “Automatic restore” to allow app data to be restored automatically upon signing in with your Google backup account
Back Up Contacts:
- Open “Settings”
- Scroll to and tap “Accounts”
- Select the account type and account you want to use for syncing
- Turn on “Contacts” if necessary
- Tap “Menu” > “Sync Now”
NOTE: Contacts backed up using this method can be automatically restored the next time you sign in with your backup account.
Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:
- Establish a USB connection between the Moto M and computer
- Turn on “Media device (MTP)” / “File Transfer (MTP)” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
- Open the File Explorer on the computer
- Use the Explorer to locate the media files on the phone storage
- Copy the media files and transfer them in the desired backup location on the PC
- After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB port
Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:
- Connect the Moto M to your computer via USB
- Turn on “File Transfer (MTP)” / “Media Device (MTP)” at the prompt or from the “Notification” area
- Launch the Explorer to locate the media file backups on the PC storage
- Copy the backup files and transfer them on the phone storage (preferably in the “Media” folder or the directories they originate from)
- Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray
- You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB
