Back Up App Data:

  1. Open the apps drawer and launch “Settings
  2. Tap “Backup & reset” under “Personal
  3. Turn on “Back up my data” to back up app data to your Google account
  4. Turn on “Automatic restore” to allow app data to be restored automatically upon signing in with your Google backup account

Back Up Contacts:

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Scroll to and tap “Accounts
  3. Select the account type and account you want to use for syncing
  4. Turn on “Contacts” if necessary
  5. Tap “Menu” > “Sync Now

NOTE: Contacts backed up using this method can be automatically restored the next time you sign in with your backup account.

Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:

  1. Establish a USB connection between the Moto M and computer
  2. Turn on “Media device (MTP)” / “File Transfer (MTP)” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
  3. Open the File Explorer on the computer
  4. Use the Explorer to locate the media files on the phone storage
  5. Copy the media files and transfer them in the desired backup location on the PC
  6. After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the phone from the USB port

Restore Media Files from a Windows PC:

  1. Connect the Moto M to your computer via USB
  2. Turn on “File Transfer (MTP)” / “Media Device (MTP)” at the prompt or from the “Notification” area
  3. Launch the Explorer to locate the media file backups on the PC storage
  4. Copy the backup files and transfer them on the phone storage (preferably in the “Media” folder or the directories they originate from)
  5. Once the transfer is complete, eject the phone storage via system tray
  6. You can now safely disconnect the phone from the USB
