WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory will be deleted, including media files and ringtones, downloaded content, apps, contacts etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Before you factory reset your phone, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up and restore data. Keep in mind that data located on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected by the factory reset.

Master Reset via Settings:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset
  4. If your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN / password / pattern to proceed
  5. Tap “Reset phone” to confirm
  6. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from uninstalling it via settings, alternatively you can try resetting the device from the Android System Recovery menu. The menu can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses as follows:

  1. First make sure the phone is turned off
  2. Next, press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
  3. After 5 or more seconds, release both keys to gain access to the “Boot Mode Selection” menu
  4. Press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Recovery
  5. Press “Volume Up” to select the highlighted option
  6. Wait for the “No command” screen. On this screen, press and release “Power” and “Volume Up” at the same time. This should give you access to “Android Recovery
  7. In Android Recovery, press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “Wipe data / factory reset
  8. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  9. Choose whether to delete “Userdata only” or “Userdata + personalized content
  10. Press “Power” to confirm and wait for the phone to reset
  11. Once the process is complete, “Reboot system now” should be highlighted. Press “Power” to confirm and reboot your phone

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After you have factory reset your phone, it’s recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

  1. Open “Settings” and scroll to “System
  2. Tap “About phone” > “System Updates
  3. In case an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply them (NOTE: this process will require a reboot)
