Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: In case one of your apps crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as it should, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the app’s cache and / or data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted. This includes profiles, save games, settings, credit card and login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the application’s cache.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Go to “Settings
  3. Tap “Apps” and ensure “All Apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired app and access “Storage
  5. Tap “Clear cache
  6. In case clearing the cache didn’t solve the issue, you can tap “Clear data” > “OK” (NOTE: check WARNING above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your device doesn’t work as intended or runs out of storage inexplicably and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can yield results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal data on the phone’s internal memory.

  1. Ensure the phone is powered off
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume Down” for at least 5 seconds
  3. Release the keys and you should immediately gain access to the “Boot Mode Selection Menu
  4. Press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “Recovery” in the menu
  5. Press “Volume Up” to select the highlighted option
  6. Wait for the “No Command” screen to appear, and then press and release “Power” and “Volume Up” repeatedly until you gain access to Android Recovery
  7. Navigate the Recovery menu using the volume buttons and highlight “Wipe cache partition
  8. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  9. Once the cache partition is wiped, “Reboot system now” will be highlighted
  10. Press “Power” to confirm

NOTE: In case clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can visit this thread for instructions on how you can factory reset the Moto M.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: In case you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled.

  1. Wake the screen if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power” while viewing the home screen
  3. Tap and hold “Power off” in the pop-up window and tap “OK” when prompted to reboot to Safe Mode
  4. After your phone reboots, a “Safe Mode” label should be shown in the lower-left corner of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, first access “Settings
  6. Go to “Apps” and ensure “All Apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top of the screen
  7. Select the desired app
  8. Tap “Uninstall” > “OK” to confirm
  9. To exit safe mode, power-cycle your device as you normally would. Press and hold “Power” and tap “Power off
