Back Up App Data:
- Tap “Apps” on the home screen
- Launch “Settings” and scroll to “Personal”
- Tap “Backup & reset”
- Enable “Back up my data” to back up app data to your Google account
- Enable “Automatic restore” to allow app data to be automatically restored the next time you sign in with your Google backup account
Back Up Contacts:
- Launch “Settings”
- Scroll to and tap “Accounts”
- Select the account type and account you want to use for syncing
- Enable “Contacts” if necessary
- Tap “Menu” > “Sync Now”
NOTE: Contacts backed up using the method above can be restored automatically the next time you sign in with your Google backup account.
Back Up Media Files on a Windows PC:
- Connect the Motorola Moto G5 to your computer via USB
- Enable “Media device” / “File Transfer” at the prompt or from the “Notification” area
- Launch the File Explorer on the computer and use it to locate the desired media files on the phone storage
- Copy the files and transfer them in the desired backup location on the computer storage
- Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB cord
Restore Media Files from a Windows Computer:
- Connect the Motorola device to your computer via USB
- Enable “File Transfer” / “Media Device” when prompted or from the “Notification” area
- Launch the File Explorer on the computer and locate the media file backups on the PC storage
- Copy and transfer the backup files on the phone storage, preferably in the folder(s) they originate from or the “Media” directory
- After the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray and safely disconnect the device from the USB port
