Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your applications freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the app’s cache and/or data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including user profiles and safe files, settings, credit card and login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings
  3. Access “Apps
  4. Ensure “All Apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
  5. Select the desired app
  6. Go to “Storage
  7. Tap “Clear cache
  8. If necessary, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (read WARNING above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can lead to results similar to a factory reset without losing any personal data stored on the phone.

  1. Turn the phone OFF
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume Down” at the same time
  3. Once you gain access to “Boot Mode Selection Menu”, release both keys
  4. Press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Recovery
  5. Press “Volume up” to select the highlighted option
  6. At the “No Command” screen, press and release “Power” and “Volume UP” several times until you gain access to Android Recovery
  7. Once in Recovery mode, press “Volume down” to navigate to and highlight “Wipe cache partition
  8. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  9. After the cache is cleared, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” to confirm

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you can reboot your phone in Safe Mode and remove the app from there. In Safe Mode, all third party apps are disabled by default.

  1. Press and hold “Power
  2. In the power management pop-up, press and hold “Power Off
  3. At the “Reboot to Safe Mode” prompt, tap “OK
  4. Once the phone reboots, open “Settings
  5. Then go to “Apps” and ensure “All apps” is selected in the drop-down menu
  6. Select the desired app
  7. Tap “Uninstall” > “OK” to remove the app
  8. To exit Safe Mode, press and hold “Power” and reboot your device as you would do normally
