WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all your personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory will be deleted. This includes ringtones and media files, contacts, apps, downloaded content etc. (data located on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected). In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Before you factory reset your phone, you can check this thread for a guide on how to back up and restore data.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Scroll to “Personal
  3. Tap “Backup & Reset
  4. If your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your password/pattern/PIN to proceed
  5. When ready, tap “Reset phone” and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: If you are unable to reset your phone via Settings, alternatively you can try resetting the device from the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing the following:

  1. First turn the phone off
  2. Then, press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
  3. Release the keys after a few seconds to gain access to “Boot Mode Selection
  4. Press “Volume down” to navigate the menu and highlight “Recovery
  5. Press “Volume Up” to confirm the highlighted option
  6. At the “No Command” screen, press and release “Power” and “Volume Up” at the same time for several times in order to access Recovery
  7. Once in Recovery, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “Wipe data/factory reset
  8. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  9. Highlight “Userdata only” or “Userdata + personalized content
  10. Press “Power” to confirm
  11. After the reset is done, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After you factory reset your device, it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Scroll to “System
  3. Tap “About phone” > “System updates
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and install the update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
