Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app cache or data.

WARNING! when you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app, such as user profiles, settings, login information etc. will be deleted. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Go to “Apps” and ensure “All apps” is selected
  3. Tap the desired application
  4. Go to “Storage” and tap “Clear cache
  5. If clearing the app’s cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (check the WARNING above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your device freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, you can try solving these issues by clearing the cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal app data on the phone.

  1. Turn the phone off if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Volume Down” and “Power” at the same time
  3. At the “Boot Mode selection” screen, release the buttons
  4. Press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Recovery
  5. Press “Volume Up” to select the highlighted option
  6. At the “No Command” screen, press and release “Power” and “Volume Up” repeatedly until you gain access to Recovery
  7. Once in Recovery, press “Volume down” to navigate the menu and highlight “Wipe cache partition
  8. Press “Power
  9. Once the process completes, ensure “Reboot system now” is highlighted and press “Power

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t solve the issue, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: If you’ve installed a third-party app that causes problems and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app while in Safe Mode. In this mode, all third-party apps are disabled by default.

  1. Press and hold “Power” on the home screen
  2. Tap and hold the “Power Off” options from the power management pop-up
  3. At the “Reboot to Safe Mode” prompt, tap “OK” and wait for the device to restart. Once done, a “Safe Mode” label should be shown in the lower area of the home screen
  4. To remove an app, first go to “Settings
  5. Access “Apps” and ensure “All apps” is selected
  6. Tap the desired app then tap “Uninstall” > “OK
  7. After the app is removed, you can exit Safe Mode by rebooting your device as you would do normally
