Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the app’s cache or data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including settings, user profiles, login and credit card information, save files etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Access “Apps” and ensure “All apps” is selected
  3. Tap the desired app and go to “Storage
  4. Tap “Clear cache
  5. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (check the WARNING above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably or doesn’t work as intended and you plan a factory reset, alternatively you can try solving these issues by clearing the cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal app data on the device.

  1. Turn the phone off if needed
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume Down” at the same time
  3. At the “Boot Mode selection” screen, release the buttons
  4. Press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Recovery
  5. Press “Volume Up” to select the highlighted option
  6. At the “No Command” screen, press and release “Volume Up” and “Power” repeatedly at the same time until you gain access to Recovery
  7. In Recovery, press “Volume down” to navigate the menu and highlight “Wipe cache partition
  8. Press “Power” to confirm
  9. After the process completes, ensure “Reboot system now” is highlighted and press “Power

NOTE: if clearing the cache partition didn’t solve the issue, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to reset the device instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: In case you’ve installed a third-party app that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode, where all third-party apps are disabled by default.

  1. Press and hold “Power” on the home screen
  2. Tap and hold “Power off” in the power management pop-up
  3. When prompted to “Reboot to Safe Mode” tap “OK” NOTE: once the phone reboots there should be a “Safe Mode” label in the lower area of the home screen
  4. To uninstall an app, first open “Settings
  5. Then go to “Apps” and ensure “All apps” is selected
  6. Select the desired app and press “Uninstall” > “OK
  7. Once the app is removed, exit Safe Mode by rebooting your device
