Clear an App’s Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache or data.

WARNING! By clearing an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including user profiles, settings, login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Access “Apps” > “All apps
  3. Select the desired app
  4. Tap “Storage” > “Clear cache
  5. If clearing the cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (check WARNING above)

Clear the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering a factory reset, alternatively you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data from the phone.

  1. Turn the phone off if necessary
  2. Press and hold “power” and “Volume down” simultaneously
  3. At the “Boot Mode Selection” screen, release the buttons
  4. Navigate the menu by pressing “volume down” repeatedly
  5. Highlight “Recovery” and press “Volume UP
  6. At the “No Command” screen, press and release “Power” and “Volume Up” repeatedly
  7. Once in Recovery, press “Volume down” to navigate the menu and highlight “Wipe cache partition
  8. Press “Power” to select the option
  9. Once done, make sure “Reboot system now” is highlighted and press “Power

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: If one of your third-party apps doesn’t work as intended and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode where all third-party apps are disabled by default. To reboot to Safe Mode:

  1. Press and hold “Power while viewing the home screen
  2. In the power management pop-up, tap and hold “Power off
  3. At the “Reboot to Safe Mode” prompt, tap “OK
  4. Once done, a “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app first open “Settings
  6. Then go to “Apps” and switch to “All apps” if necessary
  7. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall
  8. Tap “OK
  9. To exit Safe Mode simply reboot your phone normally
