Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or doesn’t work as intended, you might be able to fix these issues by clearing the apps cache and/or data.

WARNING! By clearing an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted. This includes user profiles, login information, custom settings, save files etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Launch “Settings
  2. Go to “Apps” and select “All apps
  3. Select the desired app
  4. Go to “Storage” and tap “Clear cache
  5. If clearing the app cache didn’t help, you can tap “Clear data” > “OK” (check warning above)

Wipe the Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering a factory reset, alternatively you can try solving these issues by clearing the device’s cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data from the device.

  1. Turn the phone off if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” simultaneously
  3. Release the buttons at the “Boot Mode Selection” menu
  4. Press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Recovery
  5. Press “Volume Up” to select the highlighted option
  6. At the “No Command” screen, press “Volume Up” and “Power” repeatedly
  7. Once you gain access to Android Recovery, navigate the menu by pressing “Volume Down” and highlight “Wipe cache partition
  8. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  9. Lastly, highlight “Reboot to system now” and press “Power” to confirm

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t solve the issues, you can check this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the device instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: If one of your third-party apps doesn’t work as intended and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode where all third-party apps are disabled by default. To reboot to Safe Mode:

  1. Press and hold “Power” on the home screen
  2. From the power management pop-up, tap and hold “Power off
  3. When prompted to “Reboot to Safe Mode” tap “OK
  4. Once the phone reboots, a “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To uninstall an app, first go to “Settings
  6. Then access “Apps” and switch to “All apps” if needed
  7. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall” > “OK
