Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your applications freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache and/or data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, such as custom settings, login information, save files, user profiles etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open “Settings
  2. Go to “Apps” and switch to “All apps
  3. Tap the desired app and go to “Storage
  4. Tap “Clear cache
  5. If clearing the app cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (check the warning above)

Wipe the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data from the device.

  1. Turn the phone off
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” simultaneously
  3. Release the buttons at the “Boot Mode Selection” menu
  4. Press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Recovery
  5. Press “Volume Up” to select the highlighted option
  6. At the “No Command” screen press both “Power” and “Volume Up” at the same time to gain access to recovery
  7. Once in Recovery, press “Volume down” to highlight “Wipe cache partition
  8. Press “Power” to select the option
  9. Highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” to confirm

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: If one of your third-party apps doesn’t work as intended and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app while in Safe Mode where all third-party apps are disabled by default. To reboot to Safe Mode:

  1. Press and hold “Power” while on the home screen
  2. Tap and hold “Power off” in the power management pop-up
  3. At the “Reboot to Safe Mode” prompt tap “OK
  4. Once the phone finishes rebooting, a “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, first launch “Settings
  6. Then go to “Apps
  7. Switch to “All apps’ and select the desired app
  8. Tap “Uninstall” > “OK
  9. To exit Safe Mode, reboot the device as you would do normally
