A friend of mine gets stuff like that wholesale and sells it to local cell phone stores. It's hard to say how you can be sure you got a real one and not a cheap fake one. If you can find somewhere selling them cheap enough, buy an extra one and cut it in half to see if it contains metal. And yes, they stick under the battery, usually they come with instructions for application. Look on ebay, I have received them free before when I bought cell phone accessories on ebay. Sorry I threw them away

The cheap ones made from plastic with gold paint are worthless. I have one in my phone that's actually made of some metallic material, it helps a little bit... not a big difference but it does give me an extra bar inside.

I bought a cell booster for my home and it works great, haven't had any problems since I bought it. As long as you have 1/2 or 1 bar recption somewhere around your house, the booster antenna will pick it up and amplify it. If you have no reception at all then I don't think boosters would work. The company I bought it from lets you return them if they don't work and I definitely think it's worth a try. www.cellboosterstore.com.

cellular radio wave are for the most part in a high radio spectrum ( 800mhz ) and work by "line-of-sight" which means anything between you and the cell tower will decrease your reception if you are going to use one of the external antennas then your best bet is also to put it outside of a window if you can it will give you the best reception and try to find out where the tower for your provider is and try to put it out the window that is facing it the best

if you have any other questions about this feel free to ask me or PM me i've been working with radios for a long long time

The link is in my previous post, www.wilsoncellular.com

If your phone has a jack for external antenna, you may be able to go with a less expensive trucker-style antenna that you just plug in and stick out the window. The booster/amplifier/repeater thing is going to give you awesome reception in a vehicle, RV, or home where you receive a lot of interference.

I was looking at the ones on www.wilsoncellular.com but there are other brands if you look around with google.

As far as better reception indoors, I am abouit to invest in one of these antenna/booster devices.

My reception inside my home is terrible, but as soon as I walk outside I get 3-4 bars. I think this repeater/booster device is going to solve my problem.
