    After two dropped and one lost phone I FINALLY learned my lesson with Verizon. Of course, I haven't NEEDED the insurance yet, but I want to be prepared. One user is a Marine and another is a college student...ugh.

    The reality is, it gets down to the bottom line...money. Too many claims and insurance fraud occurs in every industry and costs us, the consumers ultimately, either by higher costs, and/or limitations on coverage and in some cases unavailable coverage. Who ever said life would be fair, eh? Just talk to homeowners in Fla. about the critical state of homeowners insurance here. At any rate, wish you the best with your phone and may it not get lost, stolen or damaged.

    I called Customer Service a few hours ago and talked to them, apparently Cingular allows you to put insurance on your phone and remove it at any given time, they just flat out told me that they straight-up refuse to insure the new SLVR L7 right now.

    The representative told me that it was the same way with the RAZR V3 for a few months after it came out as well, and I can get insurance in a few months. You know, when the phone is obsolete and not worth as much.

    Grrrr.

    i've never heard of not being able to unsure a phone because it was too new and expensive. My phone is $475 without contract and i've had it since the 2nd day it came out and i have insurance. it might be like what we have at verizon, if you dont get insurance in the first (15)days of service then you cannot get insurance until your contract is up.

    Obscene isn't it? Could you imagine buying a new car only to have your insurance agent tell you, sorry, but that model is too new, we can't insure it...and the dealer won't take it back unless it's a lemon? I realize it's not quite the same because the law requires ins. coverage and lenders do as well. Cripes, you'll have to carry that thing in a holster with a retractable cord attached so you don't lose or drop it. Won't even get into the arena of it being a temptation for a thief. I read in another forum somewhere about the no insurance available. Guess we hapless consumers have to spend major hours online to research all the info out there when it comes to buying a phone. God help you if you don't know what questions to ask. Ridiculous!!! For what it's worth, I empathize with ya.

    OK. So I lost my RAZR V3 at a party a month or so ago, and stupidly did not have insurance on it. After finding out that a new RAZR without a plan runs about $327, I saved up some cash and went to buy a new one today. I blew $20 on a cab to get to my local Cingular provider, only to discover they were OUT of all but the wretched Pepto-Bismol pink RAZRs.

    Crap. So I said screw it, I'll ride the technology wave and buy myself a nice, new SLVR L7 for $459, right? After spasmodically convulsing on the floor for several minutes as my credit card was brutally raped, I said to the guy, "Make sure I have INSURANCE on this one, k?"

    To which he replies, "Oh... Um, we can't insure that phone... It's too new and expensive. And you can't return it unless it's defective."

    I almost had a freaking brain annurism.

    So now I'm carrying around this five hundred dollar cell phone with no insurance, clinging tenaciously to it out of desperate fear of losing it.

    Does anyone know of a good third-party cell phone insurance agent? I'm looking at https://www.mobileprotech.com/ right now, and that seems to be worth it, but does anyone know of a better one by any chance?
