Hi there, from joel39. I had the same question, wanting to upload images from my Samsung A970 to my computer, which has surprisingly effective image editing software: Adobe, ArcSoft PhotoStudio 5.5 and Cannon Utilities.
Unfortunately calling 1800 numbers and sending emails, I could get no answers, so I went to the local Verizon Wireless store, where they sold me two Sandisk cards and a Mobile Mate USB 2.0 device. No one knew at VW, Sandisk or at the store how to transmit the images. My digital camera downloads via usb cable, but the Verizon Wireless-Sandisk arrangement seemed unworkable. Burning resentment on my part.

But wait: using 611, I found a knowledgeable tech, who said, just go to the pix gallery and you can upload wirelessly to the VW site. Voila. Once the images are upload, I can download them to my computer and edit them. The A970 has a 2.0 MP camera, and with proper lighting, does a respectable job.

The moral of the story is that it is easier to sell things than to understand the technology which makes them work. The VW store was remiss in selling me something they didn't know how to use. Perhaps there is a link between the tiny 512 MB card in my A970 and the card in the Mobile Mate, perhaps not. It doesn't matter, since uploading to the VW site is not difficult.

Just remember: 2.0 MP is respectable with sufficient illumination, but it cannot produce the startlingly vivid images of my Canon A95 with 5.0 MP.

If you don't want to mess with a data cable you can send any pics or ringers as an email attatchment from your computers email account to your phone's email address. It will be received as a MMS. Once on the phone you can assign it to wherever you want.

Most phones don't even have to have a camera to do this. As long as you have the correct data cable, you can, in most cases, literally just drag the picture you want from your desktop to your phone. Of course the quality of the picture depends entirely upon the phones imaging resolution. If you put a picture on a buget camera phone, the picture may seem grainy and very pixelated. If however you put the chosen picture onto say, one of today's models, you may find that it looks even better than it did on the viewfinder of your digital camera.

Just to help you on your way with your decision for a phone, Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Motorola seem to give the best picture results (if you buy a relatively expensive model).

The slightly worse phones with a camera, tend to iminantly be "Siemens" made products.

Of course this is just my personal opinion, but you can usually bag a megapixel camera phone for around £80 - 120 nowadays. I'd reccomend a Sony Ericsson for a starter phone, s they have great cameras and you get loads of features for the price.

Hope this helps and good luck!
