Sprint phones are CDMA, Cingular phones are GSM. They use different technologies and aren't compatible on each others' networks. You can use any unlocked GSM phone on Cingular as long as it has the 850mhz/1900mhz bands which are used by Cingular. As far as the Sprint phone goes... no other CDMA service provider in the USA will activate it so it has to be used with Sprint.

Now, There is some confusing and contradictory evidence that CDMA phones can be "unlocked" but I would advise against it because it requires tampering with the phone's software and most providers won't activate tampered phones. If you still want to know, there's more about CDMA unlocking HERE.

    Welcome to the forums.

Hey guys, I searched the forum before posting this and I couldn't find much. I have a Motorolla Razr right now from Cingular and I hate it. I bought a brand new Samsung a900 for Sprint to resell on Ebay, but I fell in love withit. Is there any way to unlock the phone or is there even a sim card in it? I assume I would have to switch the firmware on the phone to the Cingular firmware, but the main question is...is the phone unlockable to start with? Thanks for your help.
