I'm sorry it took me such a horrendously long time to respond, but.. here I am!

thanks for all the info. you people rule, and this was exactly what I was looking for.

As far as what I need, right now with Verizon I am using somewhere under 600 daytime minutes, with unlimited n&w, and that seems to work out really well. I have the 500 texts to anyone and unlimited IN texting, and again, that seems to suffice.

I'd really like a phone with wifi like the 6700 has. I work in schools and wifi is plentiful.

I'd love to go with T-Mobile but I live in Meadville, PA. There doesn't seem to be any service here at all according to my Pittsburgh friends who are with T-Mobile. Anytime they come up here, they have zero signal whatsoever, so that is a little discouraging.

How far are you into your Verizon contract? If you've had verizon for two years, you can switch. If not, you'll have to stay with Verizon or pay $175 to get out of your contract.

If you're thinking about switching, then welcome to the club, as I, too, am switching from Verizon. Be sure to do your research before you sign that ever so expensive dotted line. Here's my breakdown:

Sprint: great allover coverage but generally more expensive
Cingular: great eastern US coverage but not too good customer care
T-Mobile: cool phones and cheap but not good in rurual areas.

I personally think that out of the top four carriers (Cingular, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile), Sprint and T-Mobile are perhaps the best. I like Sprint's coverage as it has more coverage than anyone (from the maps I've seen) and have some good, exculsive phones, such as the Sanyos. T-Mobile gets you more minutes per dollar and is the cheapest than the other three in most, if not all, situations. They also have the coolest phones,in my opinion, such as the PEBL, Sidekick, and more. T-Mobile works great in a lot of cities but not the best choice when it comes to, say, Humphrey, Nebraska. As for Cingular, they aren't bad, but the coverage out here in the west isn't too good and I've heard of terrible customer service ($1.49 per customer care call or something like that.) As for Verizon, I don't like their phones or customer care either. So I would say Sprint or T-Mobile, but tell me what you need (amount of minutes, texts, type of phone, etc.) and I'll give you a good comparasion.

Sprint has $39.99/mo. for 450 min. with UNL. N&W's starting at 7pm. Cingular has $39.99/mo. for 450 rollover min. with UNL. N&W's and M2M. T-Mobile has $39.99/mo. 600 min. with UNL. N&W's. While checking out other carrier's plans, make sure to check out if you have coverage with them.

The 6700 is a really nice phone. Here are a few others you can check out aswell: Compare Phones (Phone Scoop)
Also, in order to sign a new contract and get a rebate, you'll need to be ready for an upgrade. I'm not really sure how Verizon's upgrade program works, but I think it's new-every-two which means you'd need to have your phone for 2-years. If you're not ready for an upgrade, you can get a new account under your name, but you'll need to get a new number.

Im currently in a family plan with my mother and sister through Verizon.

However, they are both giving up their phones and dropping cell phones for the time being.

Should I stick with Verizon and get my own plan or does another major carrier offer something better than Verizon would for a single phone plan with unlimited nights/weekends and maybe like 500 daytime per month?
