Had a great experience with net10 so far. Some people complain about the customer service but I really haven't had a reason to call them and I've not had a dropped call yet. Learned that this was because they use the Verizon and ATT towers to broadcast their signal, which feels like a steal to get for 50 bucks a month.

Great review! love the detail you put into it. My experince with NET10 has only been positive so far because it costs so much less than what I used to pay on ATT. In my experience the main difference is the fact that the phones are a little more sparse on selection and pray you don't have to call customer service. However, if you want an unlimited smartphone on the Verizon netowrk and 50 extra bucks in your wallet per month, this is it!

Net10 offers a great service especially for people who don’t use their cell phone much. By prepaying $15 a month you have 150 minutes of talk time 24x7/365. You buy a phone from them, but most of their phones come with 2 months and 300 minutes included. That’s it. No hassles or billing surprises.

Unfortunately that doesn’t tell the whole story. Net10’s customer service stinks. Their reps are always polite, sometimes to a fault, but English isn’t their first language (they are based in India, I believe). The phone connection is inevitably lousy as they all use the same cheap headsets. There is often background noise of other reps talking in the background.

Worse of all Net10 has a very rigid policy and procedure manual which is simply non-negotiable. For instance, their “Easy Minutes” program automatically debits your account whenever you need more minutes or days. But they can only start that on the day you place an order. So if you already are manually paying the fee and you switch to “Easy Minutes” you will loose the days still remaining on your account.

Another example, my phone needed replacing so I purchased a new one with 300 minutes and 60 days a day before my time was to expire. I assumed the 60 days would then be added, but no way. The days and the minutes go exclusively to the new phone and would not be applied to the old phone until the new one arrived in a week. Hhhuuu? I bot the days but they didn’t belong to me, they belonged to my yet to be delivered new phone! No amount of begging, pleading or cajoling did any good. I even went up the ladder to the second level supervisor.

But this is not the worst. When I tried to get the new phone registered, they switched me from AT&T to T-mobile. Well I had traveled 37 states some of it on back roads without ever being out of service with AT&T. I wasn’t willing to give that up. I asked for AT&T, which required them to send me a new SIM card. What they didn’t tell me was that because of that, they released my phone number I had used for 3 years. When I called with my new SIM card they only then announced they had given away my old phone number. I tried to appeal the abysmal customer service but to no avail. No amount of begging, pleading or cajoling did any good. Ggggggrrrrr.

If you can live by their rules, you probably will like the service. Just don’t expect any kind of customer service at any time. They simply will not compromise.

The service is pretty good. However, I'm not loving the phone options. Variety of phones is limited, but you have to remember you're paying for a practical & economical phone. For $0.10 per minute, you're getting a deal that really is incomparable to any other...especially in our current economy where you have to save everywhere you can. I wanted a phone that would be practical & would save me money. With Net 10, I am doing just that. I would recommend Net 10 to anyone looking for the same thing: a phone with minutes YOU control.

I really like the service net10 provides, its cheap, afforadable and pretty darn good. Plus they give 2 months free and 300 minutes to start. The phones start at 20 bucks and the flat rate 10 cents lets you pay for only the minutes you need.

Hi I also recently got a net10 phone for much the same reason. I will be saving $55 a month with the net10 unlimited plan!
I must say that I do not agree with some of the scores on your rating.
I would have the following scores different:
8 ----- Activation and redeeming airtime
8 ----- Customer Service (haven't had to use much so don't really know)
10 ----- Signal strength in rural area and ability to make calls inside buildings (its better than any other phone i've ever had!)

FuzionMobile.com offers the widest array of smartphones and also has no contract or credit check...Any phone with a SIM card works. It makes it the best autopay plan out there in my opinion.

You ought to enable yourself to upgrade to better phones while keeping your # and your lovely no contract status- get the best of both worlds- I am a fuzion mobile customer.

I don’t understand why everyone has a problem with carriers out sourcing there customer services because everyone does it, and shore it can sometimes be a hassle, but you can work things out if you just try and be polite. You complain things are expensive and then when a carrier like net10 finds a way to cut costs you complain, I say just enjoy the money you can save. I dig net10 even if they have outsourced CS, it’s a good carrier and everything about them suits me just fine.

Despite the negative reviews that are floating around concerning Net 10, but I've had a really great experience. I purchased the phone and inital minutes at Best Buy at a friend's recommendation after so many issues and overage fees with my previous company. The price for my Samsung was awesome and I'm paying $40 for 400 minutes. I keep track of my minutes on my phone and can re-charge it as well. The T-Mobile powered network offers really good coverage. I've only spoken to customer service once and yes it was out-sourced, but they were helpful and solved my problem quickly.

I have used TracFone for years as a secondary phone, and later switched to Net10 when my post-paid contract expired. I have found some key pros and cons with this company and it's service.

On the pro side, I like how they tie you in with the best provider for your area - a MAJOR plus! The phones are typically cheap to buy and easy to add airtime.

On the negative side, they don't offer any higher-end phones and what they do offer leans toward throw-aways. Keep in mind that if you do break your phone, you can buy a new one and transfer minutes. But there is a MAJOR DOWNSIDE here.... their customer service is truly horrible. TF/N10 outsources CS to where there is a language barrier - the reps are polite, but the entire experience often turns into a nightmare.

Overall if you don't have issues and all goes well - life is wonderful with Net10. But when something goes wrong, well, those horror stories about terrible CS are true!

There is no contract. Net10 clearly states everywhere that you are buying time and days of activation. Do you expect them to keep your phone and acct. active forever waiting for you to use your last min?

Do NOT buy a Net10 phone. It isn’t as simple or evil-free as they make it sound. I bought a phone to use for emergencies only, and was told at the point of purchase that since there is “no contract,” I would never be obliged to buy more minutes than I actually need, nor would there be a schedule under which I’d have to buy the minutes I did need. This was all false. I found AFTER purchasing the phone that you are REQUIRED to either buy huge amounts of air time in advance in order to keep your phone active, or to buy a MINIMUM of 200 minutes a month – again, just to keep your phone active, not because you need the air time. The only way you can cut the cost down to merely $15 a month is to enroll in a “plan” that automatically bills you $15 a month for 150 minutes – even if you only need 50 minutes. Net10 will end up costing you MORE, not less, if you use it as your only phone. I am now stuck with 300 minutes I’ve already paid for, and six days in which to use them before the investment I’ve already made is just lost.

“No contract, no hassle, no evil” is a joke.
Don’t fall for it! There will be a bill every month, no matter what they say or what they call it, or you just plain have no more phone service no matter h ow many minutes of air time you’ve already paid for.

I've had a few prepaid cellphones over the past several years:Cellular One from Radio Shack (using Radio Shack's brand), Verizon, TracFone, and finally Net10. So far, I think that Net10 is the best deal out there for users like me. I like the fact that the remaining airtime balance is displayed right on the phone -- no calls needed to get the balance, and I always know how much time I have remaining. In fact that's why I decided to go with TracFone and, ultimately, Net10 in the first place.

Coverage has never been an issue with Net10 -- I can get cellphone any place that offers service -- so far. In fact, I worked in a rather remote area of northern New York State and was able to get cell service with my Net10 phone while other folks with fancier phones from other carriers were not.

I have heard horror stories about bad Net10 customer service. Granted, the service reps seem to speak with heavy accents, but I can't say the service has been especially bad. The first time I set up my service, I ported my number from TracFone (which is the parent company of Net10, by the way), it did take almost 2 weeks and several calls to customer service reps. That process was mildly frustrating, but I finally got the issue resolved and have had the same phone number for at least 4-5 years now. I just recently purchased a replacement phone and transferred all of my remaining minutes and my phone number within 5 minutes thanks to a helpful CS rep.

Granted, the phones may not have all the bells and whistles available but the sound quality and functionality are excellent. I recently got on their website, and found a few Nokia phones, at least 2 Motorola phones and 2 LG phones. They are now offering at least 2 models from 2 different companies that offer a camera feature -- so you can send picture messages.

If all you want is a basic phone with decent coverage, inexpensive service and good sound quality then Net10 is a great choice.
