I'll try and look into that...

Well, if nothing is working for you, you can at least sell it and buy another one that is unlocked...if that ever crossed your mind.

Brought my phone to a shop and they said the software is not out yet to unlock my k800i does anyone know anything about what software is required for this

Yup. It seems that your friend would know what to do.

That's what I heard. Just like what I heard with the K790a that is carried with Rogers, as well as the Nokia 6682 with Cingular. But flashing would unlock it because it's not branded to any annoying carrier.

you are a legend, I gave it to a friend and he is gonna get it done for me, is it just a matter of hooking it up to the PC and using the davinci software to flash it cos apparently 3 were meant to be just locking them to their network permanently

By Saying the original manufacturers settings do you mean sony or the original network as the original network are 3 and if so then i got screwed

Well, of course. They won't give you the subsidy code unless you have an account with them.

Who told you about that? Flashing the firmware resets it to its original manufacturers setting, making it unbranded.

I have contacted 3 in the uk and they said they would only give me a code if i was a uk customer, i explained my situation and they were not one bit helpful, i was told flashing the phone doesnt actually make it sim free though, do you know

You can always contact 3 to ask for the code. I haven't dealt with 3, but I heard that the phones that are carried by 3 are hard locked.

Usually I would recommend to flash the phone's firmware to it's original manufacturers setting. Check out wotanserver to flash it.
