Here is something that might help, this place sells all types of covers and they just snap on, no tools required, it will at least save you 15 bucks.

    Thanks,
I'd be very careful about disassembling your phone. At a minimum you have voided your warranty by doing so. You could also damage the operation of the phone by trying to open it up. My advise is to use the vinyl covers unless you are totally willing to risk writing off your phone and needing to buy a new one.

    Update...

Bought a cell phone tool kit off eBay, but it ended up coming from HongKong and took over 2 weeks, plus it didnt have the tiny T3 screwdriver I needed... I couldnt wait for that so I found a good set at Fry's.

I got the new OEM faceplate kit, including the middle frames and hinges off eBay... I got the instructions how to disassemble/swap faceplates from the guy that sold them. Not much difference between the V3c and 3m. except.. the V3c does NOT have the area for the MicroSD Flash card cut out, and the back is a little thicker than the 3m(in area of SD socket).

The frame and hinges looked like a little more than I wanted to fool with it, so I left the stock black frame and just changed the silver faceplates to the midnight blue ones... I have to saw a slot for the MicroSD flash card as there was not an opening for it. Also had to thin out the lower back cover as the SD socket made the back bulge out a little, but still looks OEM...

On to the music... I broke down and bought the Music Essentials Kit the VCast kit says it only works with Windows Media Player v10, I had v11 but it worked. Plugged in to phone. The intructions say to drag/drop songs into a MP playlist which converts the mp3's to .wma's, then click the SYNC button which uploaded them onto the phones 1GB MicroSD flash card.

I then put the flash card in the computer's reader and uploaded the wallpapers I wanted. Plugged it back into the phone, selected the one I wanted and it looks great.

If you already have the mini-USB cable, can you transfer the music without the Essentials Kit? I dont know, I had the drivers from MPT, so I dont think I needed the ones from the Essentials kit. I dont have the Essentials kit loaded on the laptop, so I'll try to see if I can sync songs without it..

Changing faceplates took abt an hour (including cutting the flash card slot)...

    V3c faceplates from eBay, $18 + shipping
    screwdriver kit from Fry's, $13 + tax
Sandisk 1GB MicroSD Flash card from Fry's, $30 Verizon charges $80!!,
    Music Essentials from Verizon, $29.

Cost of used 2-4GB iPod(mini) on eBay, $50-60!
Worth the cost and hassle of adding the Music kit? No.

ok, now I'm gettin mad.. I put the microSD into the computer, copied the .mp3's into my_music folder, put it in the phone, went to Tunes and Tones, My Music and Play All Songs... it promptly DELETED everything!! I did it again and again it deleted all my music.. Is the phone bad?

According to the chat person on VZW.COM it only uses WMA. I thought that that was one of the most benifical things of the Chocolate.

The phone will play MP3 and WMA files. Make sure that you put the music files into the "my_music" folder, and the pictures in the "my_pix" folder. f you have done this, it is most likely that you have a defective phone.

They were in mp3, are they supposed to be wma?

As far as the faceplates go, yes you could do that, and as far as music goes, is it in wma format?

    Paul,

I'm looking at getting one of the kits from the faceplate guy you listed for my v3m.. can I change just the front and back covers for my kids phone or do I have to change the rest of the frames(buttons, hinge caps) too?

Second question has to do with the v3m and music.. I got a 1gb micro SD card for my v3m from Frys Electronic($34), copied some of my music onto it using the SD adapter in my computer, but not only does it not play on my phone, it tends to freeze up and only multiple CLR, or EXIT gets it back to the main screen. Do I HAVE to get the multimedia kit from Verizon to get it to play music or is there something I'm doing wrong? Is there a specific folder I have to put the music in? I also copied some jpg's onto it for wallpapers but couldnt get to them, so I'm guessing they also have to go into a specific folder?

    Thanks,

    TJ

How would the Verizon wireless store know if I switched it back? Lol.

Nate, as soon as you unscrew the first housing screw, and open that phone up, you have voided your warranty.

I ordered a V3M off of eBay, and I ordered a Blue housing for it, my question is will this void the waranty? If it breaks could I just switch it back and then bring it into Verizon?

If you got it from Verizon then its not just a V3 model, it has to be a V3M or V3C.
