    Ridiculous.

First of all, smart phones are a small niche group of all cell phone users. Walk down the street and count how many people you find using smart phones as compared to regular phones. The numbers may surprise you. Smart phone users are a ratio of 1 to 10-15. That's not a large number.

Cingular? iPhone? Cash cow? LOL. Are you aware that Verizon was given first crack at this phone and Verizon's execs smartly said, "thanks but no thanks." Apple has demanded that Cingular buy 12 MILLION of these phones to get the contract. Guess what? That's 25% of Cingular's subscribers. There is no way 25% of Cingular's subscribers are going to buy this phone. Verizon's execs were much smarter than Cingular's.

Then there are assorted nightmares that go on and on and on. Do you know that Steve Jobs doesn't even have the rights to the iPhone name? He legally can't even use iPhone on the product. Oh, and are you aware that the iPhone (or whatever they call it) has a total touch screen which means if you live east of the Rockies, you are gonna have a hard time making cell phone calls in the winter.

Did you know that the design of the iPhone does not include a removable battery? A bit of nightmare problem there too.

The more you look into this product, the less interesting it becomes.

I'm wondering if Steve Jobs will still have a job after the release of this thing.

Those freebie sites make you jump through so many hoops that it's not worth it.

That link is looking more like spam to me, those ripoff sites never give you anything for free. Anyway, the iPhone looks great, have to totally agree with the first two posters. Just like when the Blackberry hit the market, Im sure all the bissness folks (and non-bissness folks) will be carrying one around. I know I want one!! lol

I think that they're decision to make this was very good. I mean did you see how many people were there at the conference. I think that its a bit on the expensive side though. I did find a site that gives it for a bit of a discount at http://www.doiop.com/iphones depending on your zip code area.

I have to wholeheartedly agree with you. I hope they don't stop inventing and reinventing - Apple is great at what it does - awesome user experiences for end products - and I am happy to see them gaining acceptance in the home as makers of high end incredible devices. Computer sales have piggybacked on the iPod success story and I can only hope that Macs will surpass PC's over the coming few years as we all accept and love our Apple products.

So, how many more times is Apple going to change the face of the technology universe? This iPhone totally makes every other smartphone look really stupid and archaic. Cingular has just latched themselves onto a cash cow by signing on with Apple to distribute and host the iPhone exclusively (for now) on their network. Even if they don't get much of a cut of the price of the phone they should make out nicely with all the devoted apple geeks and techno wizards that will be dropping their current service providers just to get their hands on this thing. Considering what this thing does the price point will not be as prohibitive as one might think.
