The pin code is based in the phone and if I am right in my assumption, then it was changed from the default by the original owner. Even with a different SIM, the phone will still ask for it on startup.

Isn't the PUK code a SIM thing? If the buyer is putting in his own SIM, then that should solve the problem.

I'm guessing the phone has its own lock code also and that is what is locked.

In Stewbie's defense, I don't think that he? was asking for an actual unlock code, or at least, I don't think he needs one. From the description, it sounds like the pin code has been entered incorrectly too many times and that the PUK code is all that is needed. This can only be obtained from your service provider, and after it is entered, the user will be prompted to enter a new pin1 code. If all is on the up and up, then this should remedy the problem.

Have your buddy take it back to where he bought it and have them do it, or call the service provider that he has and have them do it over the phone.

We do not give out unlock codes here as most people that ask for it have either stole the phone or found it and want to use it.

Remember, if the phone is stolen or has been reported lost, when you take the phone in or call in and they check the ESN number on it, they will either take it from you if you take it in, or, if you call in, they will report it.

Just go to your service provider (sprint/cingular/whatever) and have them do it for you. You can google it and you will find a couple of ways to do it yourself but you may want to let an expert do this.
