I'm glad to hear that you were able to recover the data from your phone. As far as why the data ports on certain Motorolas can't simply be universal, your guess is as good as mine. I had a V180 and a V220, and the standard mini USB worked absolutely fantastic. When I switched to the V400, I was very annoyed that I had to go online and order a special data cable for that phone. Not to mention the fact that after a short period of time, the connection became flaky and data transfers would sometimes fail. I don't know if the cable itself was somehow flawed, or if it was the data port on the phone. My V555 has the same kind of data port, but luckily that phone is Bluetooth equipped, and I don't need a data cable for it. I was glad to see that Motorola finally wised up to the poor design of those data ports, and I believe that all the phones since the V555 have had the mini USB ports on them.

Yeah, I'm still on XP. I tried MPT w/my old V220 and it worked great(same cable as my Olympus Digital Camera), just waitin' for the V400 cable(why can't they be universal?)

I'm having trouble running MPT on Vista so I hope you are using XP.

I got my data cable on ebay. It was like 10 bucks, shipped. If you look through the stickied threads, you'll find a link for MPT. Once you have it and install it, you will be able to access your pics on the phone.

Ok, I'll see if I can pick up a data cable for the v400. Do you know where I can dl the MPT version that's compatible with the v400? And maybe the best place to start my hunt for the data cable? Also, can I access the pictures on my phone using MPT?

Hmmm, I thought the keystrokes would be exactly the same between the V400 and the V555, though I could be wrong as it has been a long time since I've used a 400. Do you have a data cable and MPT software? If the blind copy won't work for you, then your only viable option would be to install MPT on your computer and hook up your phone via data cable and sync your contact list to your computer.

Thanks for the help MMM, but it's not working. My other old phone is a V220(very similar) and on that phone your steps work perfect until the last step just ends at a screen that says: "Only Phone Number Entries Can Be Copied. Continue?" So, obviously I tried adding a Left soft key stroke(which would choose YES) and THAT still didn't work(on the V400). On a RAZR it's the same steps except it's 12 down instead of 9, so I think the V400 might differ from the V555 in the # of down steps to the COPY menu? If you can think of anything else, or another way to find out please reply...........OR ANYONE ELSE!!..........thanks again.

I have a 2 yr. old Motorola V400 with a broken(blank) display screen. Everything else on the phone still works perfectly, though. I bought a new phone and need to copy my phonebook from the V400 onto its SIM card so I can then copy it to my new phone. The manual isn't clear on how to navigate the menues to do it, so I need the exact keystroke sequence so I can do it blindly. So far, I know it is: 1. 5-Way Nav Key DOWN 1 time(to access phbk.) 2. Menu Key x1(to access phbk. menu) 3. then it's 5-Way Nav Key DOWN x? to get to the copy menu? then I'm lost. If someone can help me with 3. and beyond(including the number of times on each key and if you hit the L and R Soft Keys as well), please tell me the exact buttons in order and what they are choosing I would appreciate it very much. Thank You.
