the gmail app works fine on my tmobile dash

T-Mobile isn't threatened by external applications, I am currently using a T-Mobile branded and locked RAZR and the Gmail app works fine for me. I know there was an issue with Samsungs and java, but I haven't had any problems.

Well I have my suspicions. T-Mobile is a good company and I can't see using anyone else out there ... Cingulbar is terrrible and Verizon has plenty of issues that don't work for me. But T-Mobile isn't by any stretch of the imagination immune from their own problems.

I've had several data problem issues over the years with T-Mobile and through these experiences I've come to learn that, internally, TMo can be very disfunctional. One hand many not know what the other hand is doing and sometimes one hand even tries to make sure the other hand doesn't know what it is doing.

My guess is that without any input from the sales and customer service side of the business, some mid-level teckie decided on his own that this policy should be adopted and simply adopted it without consulting anyone. Trust me, I've seen things like this done within TMo before.

The best solution is for people to call and call and call T-Mobile and express their displeasure over this policy. It's a very stupid policy and if enough people bring their displeasure to the attention of customer service, eventually it will get resolved to the satisfaction of the customer community.

As for me, I'm going to keep using unlocked and unbranded phones.

As for Verizon users, the Gmail application does NOT run with any Brew enabled phones, so Verizon, USCC, Alltel users are SOL.

I'm positive....its been mentioned quite often on other forums that this is becoming more and more the case as new products are being released. Samsungs newest model line, starting with the 519, 619, 629 cannot access these applications. These phones ARE java capable but T-mobile is not allowing external java applications to come into play.

Well wireless is able to do it because his v3i isn't subject to the java block that most T-mobile branded phones are starting to see. Those of who are professed cell phone nerds will have no problem understanding this yet other, less educated users, the typical everyday user won't understand why T-mobile would block an application such as gmail mobile. Allowing access to such a program might in fact increase revenue by pushing users into a tzones package for example. Just a thought.

the only carrier i have ever had problems with was US Cellular (because they used Brew which is a HORRIBLE technology).... i couldn't install anything on my Razr (way back when they were still new)

I have an allergy to carrier locked and branded phones. Haven't used one in years. Don't recommend them.

May change my tune if I get a Blackberry Pearl but unless that happens, I don't foresee me using a carrier locked and branded phone. Most advanced members of forums like this don't use carrier locked and branded phones.
