3D manipulator (3D mouse) is a control device connected to a computer and used for three-dimensional positioning of the cursor and manipulating objects in virtual space with six degrees of freedom. I recently chose SolidWorks and I want to say that this is a new experience and pleasant sensations I want to learn to work with it. With the help of a 3D manipulator, you can control the movement of objects in space.

You probably don't want to waste your time with a tri color LED. They are usually not as bright as a single color, and you would have to solder 3 different anodes to the board in the mouse. If the solder point is really small, then that could prove a difficult task. Besides, when you light all 3 colors simultaneously, the result isn't really all that amazing. I, personally would go with a super bright white or blue. Those two are generally the easiest colors to find a high mcd value.

Nice... but I wouldn't try this on my mouse. I have a very expensive gaming mouse, I'm scared ill mess it up :P

i know this one kid who did that same thing to his mouse, he actually stole the mouse from school, and modded it, then brought it back and showed everyone. he showed a teacher that said it wasn't possible that he was wrong... then he sold it for $10

Depends on the fitting inside your mouse (That holds the LED)... it's different with some mouses.

5MM would probably work. It all depends on your mouse.

I don't remember for sure what site I saw those on. I want to say it was superbrightleds.com.

I the first one i used (soldering) was a 3mm LED, the one i hooked up to the power was a 5mm LED. It only matters when you have a mouse that has a "container" to maintain polarity... btw, what site is that?

As soon as I get the right mouse I'll put up a tutorial on how to install a fan in one (Idea came up, but this mouse had a special weight in it that had clips... couldn't just cut them off.

Ok, thanks for the info. One last question though. Did you use a 3mm or 5mm LED? I found a site that has 5mm white LED's that are like 18,000 mcd. But if I can't use a 5mm, then I'll just have to settle for using the 11,000 3mm LED that I already have.

Well, i did one that i soldered to it, and what's in red is the second hack i did where i hooked it up directly to the USB's power, not the board. I didn't need to put in a resistor because the blue LED i'm using is only 7,000 mcd, so it wouldn't matter (The original red LED was only 6,000... so I improved tracking). Yes, making it brighter will improve your tracking because the "eye" (optical lense... remember it's a camera taking 14,000 pictures a second. The more it can see, the better it will perform) can see more.

Ok. So the LED that you replaced was not hooked directly to the USB's power? And does the brightness of the LED have anything to do with how sensitive the mouse will be?
