Actually, as far as manufacturers are concerned, the market is broken up into only a few chunks, so it is quite possible that Apple could get the 1% market share that they are looking for.

World Cell Phone Market Share (2006):
Mobile phone market stays strong | CNET News.com

US Cell Phone Market Share (2007):
Motorola News | Chicago Business News, Analysis & Articles | Moto's share of U.S. cell phone market rises: report | Crain's

    Hope this helps.

Moto just might have 1% market share with its RAZR's: if anyone does with any particular phone, it's them. I agree with Apple being up against some pretty big odds (and hopes) to hit the 1% market share mark: that's one heck of alot of phones to have to sell and they are not exactly priced for the average Joe or Jane.

Seems to me that they are possibly trying to create a scenario that happened with the pre-launch hype and craze of the Sony PS3: get everyone to want to buy one on the first day and make them think that they have to have this phone. Then people will buy even if they don't want it.
