    get a 3G 2100, wcdma, quad band, unlocked phone. this is the phone use in korea and japan
    example: nokia 6630, nokia 6680 and most of the nokia N series. make sure the phone is unlocked

    You have to find out what GSM standart you have in Us and in Korea. Mostly, modern cell phones could work in different frequences, so I think you will be oK
