alright, I admit to being a blonde...

Ok, so I'm traveling abroad (to the USA) and would like to use my iPhone where wi-fi is available. I currently pay for a 1gb/month data plan.

It sounds like I am able to use wi-fi for free, and not pay roaming charges when I find free wi-fi. It also sounds like what I use while using a wi-fi while traveling, will not count against my monthly data allowed under my plan (is it called "tethered"?)

Do I have that correct? While I'm pretty tech savvy, I admit that I don't really understand wi-fi like I thought I did!

I remember starbucks had free ATT wifi for a while. Do they still have that? That's a pretty big bonus for iTouch users.

You will not be charged for roaming charges with Wi-Fi. You will only incur data charges for using another carriers cellular data network.

And of course anyone looking for info on the new iPhone 3gs, it has wifi as well - in fact, with the new 3.0 software as long as you've logged into a wireless network before, it will automatically log in the next time.

I didn't thoroughly read this entire thread, so this may have been posted multiple times...

Wi-Fi with AT&T's Apple iPhone will not cost for its use. What will cost is the fact AT&T will require a $30 or so data plan, which is mandatory...so you gotta pay for it anyway.

The Touch includes free Wi-Fi anywhere, unless the hotspot states otherwise.

RE: internet Fee. With many of the plans, you will not be able to avoid paying for Data. It's $30/mo for 2 years.

"If AT&T determines that you are using an iPhone on your account without an eligible data plan, AT&T reserves the right to add an eligible data plan to your account and bill you the appropriate monthly fee."

My regular phone just broke and I just switched to my Dad's iPhone for a month until I can get a new phone. I don't have internet on my plan at all. Does that mean that if I go into the internet in a non-wifi area will it cost me money? And is the iPhone always using internet through some of the applications? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
