    I've gotten a couple of phone calls from really weird area codes on my cell! Of course I don't answer them! One is 373 & 223. When I research them they are both from some weird foreign countries. Does anyone know first of all, how they got my cell phone number? And secondly, how do I, or is there a way to block those numbers from calling anymore?? I have an iPhone & not sure how to block, if it's possible to? Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thank you in advance!!

    Posting these scams is one of the best ways to nip them in the bud. Thanks for the head's up. I frequently get calls from numbers I don't recognize, but I just ignore them. If it's that important, they can leave a message. If they do and I know who it is, I'll call them back.

    Thanks for the heads up i will keep my eye out for it. I cant stand these scammers and the more we can expose them the better. Hopefully more and more people continue to let others know so we can put a stop to this.

    I have received many many calls from the following African countries and their dialing codes are;

    - Ghana (+233)
    - Nigeria (+234)
    - Guinea (+224)
    - Kenya (+254)
    - Zimbabwe (+263)
    - Togo (+228)
    - South Africa (+27)
    - Benin (+229)

    Fortunately, I never got caught into their trap but really really beware of calls coming from Africa !!

    Why do people even post their cell # in a classified ad? That's asking for trouble! I am always wary of who gets my number, as I am pretty sure some companies sell lists of numbers to telemarketers.

    I received the same remodeling call, I told that fool that I did not even own a home so how could he have spoke to me a few months ago so he just hung up quick.

    No they can only get what people are stupid enough to send them. One scenario is to call you on a classified ad, either in print or online, and offer to buy whatever you’re selling, but they only have a second party check for way more than your asking. They want you to cash the check and send them the excess. With a large handling feed offered for your trouble. The problem is the checks are bogus, but good enough to fool the banks until long after you have paid out good cash. Then the bank comes back after you for the full cashed amount. They are untraceable, and unstoppable.

    In some cases they have done cold calling and claimed you have inherited money, or some other idiotic excuse, and they need you to wire an advance before the cash can be released.

    Yes these come from all over the world, but most notably Niger, and Malawi

    Queries have been posted about the source of calls with area code 223. Don't necessarily assume this is a US area code. International country code 223 is Mali. This is a neighbor of Niger, which is singularly well renowned for Mail fraud, Internet fraud, and telephone scams. Niger is country code 224, and Mali is 223. Unless you know someone ther, you could expect that any calls coming from either of these "Area" codes would be an attempt to rip you off.
