A SIM card is used to transfer your network. What you have is a GSM phone .... if you got your phone "unlocked" you could essentially get a different SIM card and place calls around the world without the additional charge of international roaming. For most cell phone apps, you need a SIM card. You could probably go into the dealer where you got your phone and ask if they have any old SIM cards ... and they will most likely give you one. To find out more about unlocked cell phones, check out Gammoth's blog at blog.gammoth.com and search unlocked cell phones.

So mainly you can do nothing without a sim card. I think it also depends on a cell phone. On my N73, I can browse my menu, lauch apps and play games.

Yes... I do have Cingular. How does the chip work without service?

So $4? Would that be CPF$?

It depends on your cell phone. Most cell phones are useless without a sim card. So it's better to have one.

    Nevermind... I found it... one-one-two (1-1-2).

Just like everything else... we're the only ones that use a different number apparently. 1-1-2 seems to be the standard in most places outside the US

It all depends on the phone, most of the phones need a sim card to access the phones applications. (even if its not active) Phones without sim card and without service can call EMERGENCY numbers only. (and no...calling your best friend is not an emergency), I belive emergency numbers are 911,112..those type of #s.
Yeah... I changed my avatar once I was able to have one to one of the lame-ass default ones. I'm not cool enough yet to use a custom one.
    What's 112?

I have an older Siemens phone that doesn't require to have a sim card in order to function.I'm sure that there are other ones out there.I've heard on applications that make phones to work without sims, but I can't tell you where to find them because I don't know any.Try finding yourself.
The only thing I know you can do with a no-sim blocked phone is dial for help.
