Doing the update will update your phone to a factory reset condition, it just updates the Factory Reset data. You would need to sync your phone with your computer to save your contacts. If you are not comfortable with doing a backup to your PC and then a restore after a factory reset, you can skip this update.

Since nobody has done so yet...
The Update can be acquired from This Page by clicking on the Wing update and entering your T-Mobile phone number.

The new software is version 4.26.531.4.

You need to enter your phone's IMEI to download the software. (Is the download locked to that IMEI? No idea yet.)

The only apparent changes are to a BETA radio ROM that has had a newer stable version out for some time and a small network display change for some areas of the US.

WM 6.1? Better Dialer? Better IM system? None of the above. T-Mobile dropped the ball on this one.

    Recommendation: Skip.

The last few phones were probably ones that did IMoSMS. The Wing IM client MUST have a working data connection and communicates with T-Mobile's IM server in-between instead of the IM server's IMoSMS system.

    Memory issues:
The phone from a clean reboot starts with about 11 MB free (Should have at least 16 MB).
Run the IM client. Then try to run the camera. See the problem?

And yes, the update is free as it is a maintenance patch.

Apparently T-Mobile will be pushing a software update for the Wing sometime later this year. Sadly, it won't come soon enough for many people.

This information comes from speaking to the PDA department of T-Mobile. If anybody knows any further information, or as we find out more, let's try to keep this up to date. Supposedly some things that will be addressed include memory issues, the IM client never closing, and the Camera not working with the IM client.
