Commodore made great computers with the VIC20, C64 and Amiga, but the
management of the company was dismally hopeless and simply had no clue
what they were doing, especially towards the end.

Now of course there some fools trying to resurrect the name Commodore
for various devices that have nothing to do with computers :-( as well
as a few hard-core fanatics that still use the Amiga OS, but now on
    PCs.

That Amiga was one slick computer. The funny thing was I undertstood
the graphics and the scan list which controlled the display in real
    time.

Commodore went the other way - they tried to push the Amiga as a
business computer and failed miserably (and in fact collapsed the
company!), despite the fact that it was a very popular home / games
    computer.

There was a brief period in the early 80's when the Atari 800 was
outselling the Apple II, but Atari decided to push games rather than
the then newly released Visicalc for Atari.
