In talking with repair folks & others, my 6255i may be dead. It runs down the battery very quickly, so that I can really only use it in an emergency, preserving power by removing the battery when it's not in use.

It's not insured, and it's out of warranty - really not a need for either, since I take care of it meticulously - and so it may need to be replaced.

I bought it because of the reception and the fact that the antenna would pull out & give me a slight boost in the reception.

What recommendations can anyone make for a cell phone replacement for this one, that'd get good/great/fantastic service in Alltel regions that are pretty rural?

    Any help, advice appreciated.

I really really don't want to change phones because the reception on this one is so good.

However, starting on Thursday, I noticed when I had my cell phone on my desk at work that it looked like the mini browser light stayed on all the time. Usually it goes into screen saver mode or something, and is dim until I either open the phone or hit the switch or the volume on it. But instead it looks like the small window on the outside of the phone is staying on all the time.

Consequently, I leave my phone on the charger all night, take it off right before I leave for work, make no phone calls during the day, and it's dead as a hammer before I get back home in the evenings. It appears this thing I just saw a couple days ago is running down my battery.

Nothing I've done has made the window turn off the backlight in it.

Are there settings that can disable this in the phone to preserve my battery? I've already taken it back to the place I got my phone, and it's no longer covered under warranty. Also, in talking with the person there, none of the current cell phones they have offer the kind of coverage this one does in the areas I use it in.

Is there any sort of fix for this?

    Help!!!
