On the original Alltel v9m you could download ringtones. They have had 4 patches since the original & the latest (#4) prevents you from making a downloaded ringtone fully functional. It will play with the music player, but won't apply as a ring tone. I've been told two different stories. One was the patch was because of copyright laws. The second explanation was that it prevented you from getting a virus with a download.

It has more to do with $3 ringtones (that includes a poor selection & not the same one I had & wanted again). I don't know any way to work around it, but someone probably does.

I cured it today with a new v9x from AT&T. They now download nicely, thank you.

I've found with my V3xx that it depends on the length of the song and the format that the song is.

Depends on who your wireless carrier is..

For example, Verizon's firmware doesn't allow you to use Songs as ring tones.

What i do is select a song from itunes, in the info change the start at-end at to under 15 sec, and then convert to ACC. After that, transfer it as a normal song, and it will aprear in the song list, but also in the rintone list. thats how i have a bunh of songs as ringtones for free.
