I found the answer on another thread. With the new LG Shine phone on the AT&T network you can use any MP3 as your ringtone, however the file must be less than 300K and no longer than 25 seconds.

I made smaller files that fit these standards and it worked.

I use an old version of Cool Edit Pro to cut a 20 second snippet of a song, save it as an MP3 and then send it via Bluetooth to the phone. File sizes are between 400 & 800K.

My old phone could handle the large files sizes, I guess I need to make smaller ones and experiment with the file sizes.

UPDATE: So I called LG and they told me the only way I can use MP3's as a ringtone is if I purchase the ringtone from AT&T due to "network restrictions." Sounds like they don't want you making their own so they can sell them to you. Anyone know of a crack?

I use Nero WaveEditor to make mine. I'll cut out a snippet 250-350kb of an .mp3 to make them. Midi files are smaller at 80-100kb. Are you using bitpim to install them?
    Here's one of my favorites.

Greetings - Just got the new shine. Attempted to use one of my MP3s as the ringtone. The phone said "File too large to be used as ringtone." The file I was trying to use was only 488KB. Does anyone know what the size limit is on MP3s used as ringtones is? (FYI, I do not have an SD card, so I'm using phone memory only)

    Thanks...
