One of my kids has the VU204, the other a V3M RazR... Motorola's website offers USB drivers that will at the very least allow you to use USB to charge both models...

I'd provide a link, but can't since I just registered to reply, but if you go to the Motorola.com website, type 'Motorola Mobile Phone USB Drivers' in the search, it's the first item on the list.

From there, scroll to the bottom and download one of the PC drivers. Works for us at least... in fact the VU204 has never plugged into the wall... he only uses his pc to charge.

I have a kensington blutooth dongle that I used with my lg phone that I had with at&t for downloading pictures to my computer and when I got my verizon 204 all I did was pair it with the software on my computer and it worked fine from the get go. I got my phone right after they came out and I had read that they would not work for this purpose but mine worked great. the dongle I have is kensington model k33348 it sells for aroud $20.00 at circuit city.

It is a Verizon issue ... I own a VU204 and like many other posters here I cannot offload my pictures or even charge the phone from my computer via a USB cable. I ran into a Verizon employee the other day and started a conversation about the VU204 problems. He informed me of the following.

Certain features in the phone that are supposed to be available (ie features designed and created by Motorola -- like USB connectivity) are deliberately "flash blocked" (???) by Verizon. He advised this is common practice for Verizon to do with Motorola phone software (not sure why) for the first 1 or 2 quarters the phone is on the market. This sure sounds like either protectionism or paranoia ... or both ... if there is a better explanation I would love to hear it.

The thing with not being able to charge by USB cable seems to be also related to Motorola software being tweaked by VZW. Motorola designed the software to detect bad power feeds and block charging in those cases, but now it seems to block even good power feeds.

A question I have for Motorola is could the untested software tampering by VZW cause the phone to accept a bad charge by mistake and thus damage the phone?

The good news is the 1st quarter of the VU204 is almost up and he said I should expect (but no promises) to see some software upgrades (ie: unblocked features) for this model soon if VZW follows their usual pattern.

    VU204 from Verizon.
I got it to recognize in bitpim and motorola phone tools.
    1. Get the updates for motorola phone tools - live update. It gets the new drivers... Or get the drivers online from motorola.
    2. choose the V710m phone in either bitpim or motorola.
    3. Use a USB cable.
    4. I could not upload my .csv file from my motorola V325, had to go to verizon and get them to sync my contacts. i guess i could have imported them in excel, but it was easier to have vz do it. I am able to create and upload new contacts as well.
    5. Sometimes i have to unplug and replug my cable in to get it to work. So far I can get my contacts sync'ed. Will work on other things - calendar, etc soon...

    Hope this helps some folks...

all you need is a usb bluetooth dongle from circuit city for about $15 (kensington) and you can send your picts directly to your computer using your bluetooth feature on your phone. I have this phone and I have been downloading quite a few pictures this way, its very fast.

I've got a brand new VU204 from Verizon. I already have a mini USB to USB cable, which I assume I can use to connect the phone to my pc. I downloaded and installed the driver software for the phone. Following the installation, when I connected my phone my computer (running Windows XP) recognized the new hardware, and recognized the phone.

However, I can't move on from there. I was hoping that my computer would recognize the phone as an external drive, or I'd have access to some software that would allow me to do things such as transfer photos from the phone to the computer.

I see on the Motorola site that there's also some software that is designed to act as some kind of interface between a phone and a computer, but that doesn't list the VU204 as a phone it works with. I also see that costs money.

Is there really no way I can download photos to my computer from my phone, given that I have a mini USB-USB cable and the driver? What use is the driver if I can't transfer anything?

I can't seem to find anything in any FAQ or Motorola help.

    Thanks!
