Incidentally the new Storm also uses a SureType half-size keyboard, which is a good idea IMO. The "full size" keyboard on the iPhone is part of the problem -- too hard to consistently and quickly hit a tiny little square on the screen with no tactile feedback.

drawbacks? you cant type as fast. predictive text is often wrong and gets annoying.
I've had a Pearl since it first came out, and just picked up the new flip version as well. I've also used the Curve and other full size BBs extensively.

Personally I prefer the SureType (i.e., "half) keyboard. The reason is that because each key has two letters, each key is larger and therefore typing is more accuracy. The full QWERTY keyboard means smaller keys, a larger buklier phone and to a degree (although some disagree) slightly worse typing accuracy (i.e., you're more likely to hit the wrong key). SureType makes errors once in a while, but its so rare that its not a problem, particularly if you're just sending brief emails and text messages. And of course, for me, the smaller phone is a huge advantage.

I had a pearl but lost it due to water damage, the benefits of a half qwerty is simply a smaller phone and smaller area for the fingers to move along when typing. Right now I have a Samsung SGH-i616 which is full QWERTY . In comparison I was able to message and type faster with the half QWERTY. The pearl is a good phone to have, it small and sleek with many useful features.

    Hope that Helps

The only one I've seen that should definitely be coming out very soon is the Storm, and I'm not sure how I feel about a touch screen (never had one) for a Blackberry. The Bold looks really nice but I have no idea when that will be released for Verizon if at all, and I don't even know the name of the flip phone Blackberry, assuming that one is also expected out for the holidays.
The Blackberry Storm will basically get more attention than the other smartphones that are trying to "uncrown" the iphone like models... besides with all the applications and software that are out there, the Storm seems to be heading in the right direction.

Touch screen is a nice feature, but I liked it only when I had my Palm treo... I'd never felt the pro's and con's of owning one similar to an iphone w/o a Qwerty.
But if you're company is getting them or giving discount incentives... I will get "the storm" myself.

I am a newbie to this forum, and I REALLY need help on the pros and cons for buying a Blackberry Pearl, the 8120.
I will be using it for my own personal use, but kind of want to have more features (like web browsing, emails, etc.).

I currently have a sony ericsson w810i, and it has been a year now. And I kind of wanting to switch to a smart phone, which I will hopefully keep for a long time.

And besides Blackberries, which other cellphones out there that's on the same level as the Blackberries? Like Samsung F700 or LG enV2????

So, can everyone help me with this? I've read on a couple of other websites online, and there are mixed opinions. And since this is a forum dedicated to cellphones, so it will definitely be help and beneficial.

    Thanks so much!

My son has one, and he can type so fast with just one hand!!! Much fast them me with 2 fingers, and it is a much smaller phone.

Know, the question is could I learn to type as fast as he can with just one hand?

I love the Pearl. After you get used to the keyboard, you'll be typing super quickly, probably faster than standard phone txting.

As for price, that's also not much of a concern as my work will be picking up most of the tab. It seems that Pearls and Curves are going pretty cheap these days, for $100 to $150. I had planned to spend somewhere in the range of $200 to $300, and since I'll be getting it through the corporate office (through work), I should be able to get a good price. Lastly, I actually prefer flip phones but don't know if a Blackberry flip will be too bulky.
Ah that helps a bit more. If you plan to send text or emails from the phone, if it were me, and I had the option of a qwerty keypad or pressing a key several times to get to the letters I wanted, I'd go qwerty. Yeah I know about suretype and predictive text, and I didn't like them on any of the phones I have had in the past for the few emails or txt I sent with them. Since having a qwerty keypad, I would never go back to suretype/predictive text.

Bulky compared to what? Look at the size specs compared to the phone you are not using, and the current ones out that you can "handle". Find a phone or device that is close to that size, and fiddle with it. Personally can't see it being that much thicker than current BBs closed or longer than say an iPhone opened. But again if it were me, I'd wait until all my choices were out, so I could make a in hand choice.

If you don't like the size of the curve, you are not going to like the size of the Bold, if you don't like flip phones, your not going to see much to change your mind in a Blackberry flip. So seeing the phones in person and getting them in your hot little paws, is going to be YOUR best bet for helping you decide on what works best for YOU.

So I guess I was just hoping that one of these new versions would be released for Verizon in the near future. Or maybe I'm wondering whether they're actually worth waiting for. I don't mind waiting a little longer if I know a new version will be released (I actually looked at the Curve and Pearl six months ago, but then decided to wait and give the upgrade to my wife since we're both on the account). If nothing else that would at least give me more options than the two I have now. Also, I don't know whether there are any significant differences in the options for either version, or for the versions potentially being released in the near future.

Anyway, that's my long, drawn-out story. Thanks for taking the time to give me some advice.
