I always recommend getting the device from the respective carrier.

It is easy to get devices from other carriers (that are CDMA) to Verizon Wireless because of their introsync technology where they can convert the wanted device to their interface.

No other large carrier has this.

Activating the phone, at this time, won't pose a problem...but it will.

Eventually, you'll notice, even though Sprint's coverage may be increasing...yours is not. This is because you wouldn't be able to take advantage of Sprint's *22___ option. Since they are CDMA, they use it...but it doesn't work on phones that don't belong with the carrier.

As far as texting goes, it should work. Picture and video messaging have a 50/50 chance of working. While internet is nearly guaranteed not to work...but in the rare case it does work, watch your bill very closely...since Verizon phones would use data differently than a Sprint phone. Also, the Sprint unlimited data plans may not work because the device may not be completely compatible. It may be compatible...for now, but you'll notice the incompatibility as you go along.

Will the verizon software loaded on a samsung alias (u740) pose a problem with trying to text or accessing the internet? I don't care about sprint music or anything like that, need the phone for calls, text, and internet only.

FYI, I have already contacted sprint with the ESN and it is clear to be activated, so activating the phone itself will not pose a problem..
