I don't doubt Apple could do it, they just can't do it elegantly- perhaps
the most "natural" gestures for cut-n-paste are already being used for
    zooming in/out.

I suspect Apple would rather do without that have it seem awkward. MS
recently added CnP to the WinMo Standard (non-touchscreen) platform
(touchscreen WinMo models have always had CnP.)

While it was a welcome addition, it's very kludgey- moving the cursor to
the desired position, clicking through a few menus to begin the cut,
banging the arrow keys to the end point, slogging through menus to mark the
end point, etc. It works, but it's very "un-Apple." ;-)

I wouldn't go so far as to say Apple intentionally omits functionality for
design and aesthetics, but where the two butt-heads, functionality is
    likely to lose...

Making it USELESS as a flashlight, without field-replaceable batteries.

That fix highlights the issue as more as a joke rather than the fix
being something spectacular. There was an on-the-fly video transcoding
service that used similar javascript bookmark methods some time back.

I predict Apple may one day launch cut and paste, but the battery life
will go down by half to accommodate it.

Yep. A web-based service? What happened? No one could think of an even
    more awkward method?

There's one in my house. My wife's. I never touch it unless I'm trying to
figure out one of its "intuitive features" she couldn't figure out herself,
or converting and installing media on it.

"My phone, love it or leave it?" No wonder why Apple gets away with
severely cripplling products if the fanboys just rush to their defense. I
love the iPhone hardware- it's display is gorgeous, the touch screen is
responsive, and the form factor is nice. But the software is hopelessly,
and intentionally crippled to insure that the phone doesn't get too
complicated for six-year olds to work, or perform any function that might
    avoid an iTunes purchase.

Reportedly it'll be Danger Hiptop/Sidekick based, but who knows. The
rumors might turnout as true as "$99 WalMart iPhones" were.

I'm a huge WinMo fan and don't want to see Zune software go anywhere near
WinMo. Zune software incorporates everything that's wrong with iTunes and
the iPhone- crippled features to placate content providers.

Did I say six year-olds? I might've been shooting too high...

iPhone Copy and Paste Now Working Between Safari and Mail

Finally, someone has conceived a way to copy and paste text from
Safari to Mail, and between web pages, transparently. And this time,
it doesn't require any software installation...

Well that will give all the nut jobs something to talk about!

I think less than 1% of those who of us who own an iPhone are even
concerned about copy/paste. The copy/paste noise is from all the
fruitcakes who don't have one, will never buy one, and who are green
with envy that the rest of us have a kick ass iPhone to play with
    twenty four - seven ;>)

If you do not like the iPhone wouldn't it make more sense to sell one
if you have it and get a life?
If you don't have one then just get a life, it is only the worlds
leading smart phone. Buy a second or third phone and move on.
Microsoft is introducing a Zune phone in a month or so. I bet it even
    has Windows Mobile in it!

    Boo ha ha ;0
