I don't have data service with AT&T for my BlackBerry, but they do charge for data use per kilobit (what a surprise...) How do I connect to the web via Wifi, with certainty that AT&T isn't charging me? Is there a setting on my BlackBerry that allows wifi ONLY for the web?
    Thank you.

Make sure it's the model curve that comes with the WIFI as Verizon doesn't offer that one

Hi, if you have a router at home and have the Curve 8320, just go to "manage connections" you'll see 3 radio buttons, mobile nework, wi-fi adn bluetooth. Select wi-fi then the wireless phone will locate your router.. to my knowledge there is no extra charge from your provider as long as you use the wi-fi connection ... hope this helps

So the "built-in" Blackberry browser works on WiFi without a data plan?

I got the curve 8320 with wifi (from ebay) I did not want the data plan either and did not want to pay a ridiculous high price for the phone outright from my provider.

I could never get an answer to this question as much as I tried before I bought it so I just went ahead and bought it anyway.

So, now I can tell you:

YES, you can use wifi on the blackberry curve 8320 WITHOUT a data plan!
ANYWHERE there is a wifi connection that is open or that you have access to.

You won't be able to go on the internet say, in your car, or anywhere that doesn't have wifi, but you can still use the phone and other applications.

The "wi-fi and mobile calling" you are referring to is a service that T-Mobile provides where they allow you to make phone calls for free over a wifi connection as well as the regular calling. You will not be able to do this without this extra monthly charge (may also require the data plan). I do not have T-Mobile so I can't be more specific on this.

I know you posted this a while ago now, so maybe you already found out on your own, but there you go.
I believe you are talking about the Hotspot@Home service for an extra $9.99/mo. It doesn't require a data plan, but you obviously have to have a voice plan already. It allows you to make unlimited wifi calls from any open, home and Tmobile Hotspot connection (Starbucks, Borders, etc...). Just the free calls at those Tmo Hotspot places-no internet.

I was looking to purchase a blackberry curve and I wanted to purchase it from T-mobile, since they do not require you to purchase a data plan. I noticed that the blackberry curve titanium included "wi-fi and mobile calling." so i was wondering if the wifi (assuming im at home and using internet from my router or just anywhere with wifi), was free?

and is this the wifi that allows me to go on the internet on the phone, or would that require the data plan?
