I bought a generic CA-42 cable from Ebay and got it to work - this was about 2 years ago. I forget just how I did it -- it wasn't easy. Unfortunately I recently launched the PC Suite and allowed it to upgrade, now it's fubar again. I think it replaced the "usb serial c" driver that I had found. But I can definitely say it was working at some point. Does anyone have a link to older versions of the PC Suite?

The CA-42 from ebay works fine on Win98, XP, and Vista. Each time I load it on a new computer, I have problems, but the one thing to keep in mind is:
    • Only the cable OEM driver works with the cable

If you install PC Suite 7.1, then connect your CA-42 to the USB port. The FIRST key is to get the Install New Hardware wizard (if you don't, delete the USB Serial C, or the Nokia CA-42 from the Device Manager). The SECOND key is to manually browse to the OEM folder with the SERSPL drivers in it. The THIRD key is to match the COM port settings to '3' on both the driver and the PC Suite Connection Manager.

I can get you there if you need help!

    Good luck Jay

I found you can very easily upload ringtones through the PC Suite browser under the gallery section.

    Info for the future

    Hey man,

Actually, your post does help a lot. It's always good (maybe not so good ) to know that others are going through the same hassles and that I'm not crazy.

Anyways, it's been well over a month since I last even thought about a cable for my phone after being so frustrated. I think it's about time I ditch the fakes and get the real McCoy. I'll probably buy one within the following week. I'll see if any T-Mobiles or Cingular stores have any in stock.

Well, once I do get the genuine cable, I'll see if I can find a solution for the music transfer part. I'm sure there's one out there.

Thanks again for the response man and I hope you too enjoy and get the most out of your Nokia 6101.

    Take care,

I just spent the last 3 days going through the same hassles as you with my new 6101 phone.

Trust me I have done mega research & the only solution is to have a genuine Nokia CA-42 cable. The after-market ones will not work, other then maybe the ones made by Force?? (not sure about that though)

I bought 1 through ebay & no luck.

Yesterday I bit the bullet & purchased a genuine nokia CA-42 & now all is fine, PC & phone connect perfectly.....

The only disappointing thing so far is that the music transfer part of Nokia PC Suite is not compatible with the Nokia 6101. I am yet unable to find out how I get new ringtones onto the phone through the cable???

If anyone can help that issue I would appreciate it.

Good luck I this helps Jay.

    Hello,

I just bought a Nokia 6101 phone and I am pretty please with it so far. I decided to buy a CA-42 data cable for it off of eBay. It arrived today but I have not gotten it to work yet. I know it's not "Nokia brand" but it still should work. It came with a CD for installation.

    I have windows xp sp2.

I plugged in the phone first. (maybe this was wrong?)
Then I ran the installations, everything was installed (PC suite, driver, etc.)
    Then I clicked on:
    'Found New Hardware
    USB Serial Controller C'
Then I follow the new hardware wizard, but it says cannot find necessary software (searched CD and harddrive)

What am I doing wrong!? I have tried almost everything but nothing works. I even uninstalled and reinstalled but nothing.

    Can someone please help me!?

    Regards,
