Here in Oklahoma, they've had EVDO for some time. For us further south (still in the Tulsa Market) we're expected to go EVDO any day now. Our phones are constantly switching from 1X to EVDO. Talking to a friend of mine in the corporate store, we're expected to go live June 1st!

There is an article dated May 6 on telephonyonline.com that gives an update. Unfortunately I don't have a high enough post count to post the link. It's easy to find through Google.

I also contacted US Cellular about this myself because we had just signed on for another two years with HTC Touch Pro phones. We talked to reps from two different stores who thought that the central and western Illinois area would be covered by sometime this summer (one rep said "sometime next month", and that was about the time this article came out.)

After apologizing "for the invonvenience" their email response to me said the following:

"We are currently in the process of expanding our network upgrades throughout our coverage areas. You will receive notification when the upgrade reaches your area, and the network icon on your device will change from "1X" to "EV".

The "EV" stands for EVDO which is Evolution Data Optimized service
which gives you the ability to watch live TV and radio stations on your
mobile phone as well as access new 3d games and the ability to send and
receive video messages. Keep an eye out for more details about this
    service."
I wish their website would be more forthcoming about their progress with the rollout, but I guess they don't want to sound like they're making promises they cannot keep.

It was released to US Cell customers (And probably missed because it came with a bill) that expected coverage for EVDO will be completed 3rd and 4th quarter this year

we don't have it here either but i am staying with uscc when i got my house i had Alltel and i couldn't use the phone in the house and then uscc put a tower about a 1/4 mile from the house. i can stand in my back yard and see a uscc tower thats how uscc does they will put a tower in a rural area if needed and Alltel still has not put a tower out here. uscc is putting evdo in all of their markets and they are trying to get it done this year. hang tight its coming.

uscc is rolling out evdo market by market just wait a little longer it will be in most markets this year so just hold on if you like their coverage which is the best in eastern , north carolina.

1x actually runs from 40-58 or so Kbps.....

at least in my area... it can do more, but they just don't have it set up that way for USCC.

I talked to a US Cellular employee who was just in a meeting regarding US Cellulars EVDO coverage.

He said that Milwaukee has been online for some time now and that Chicagoland was going to be on this Monday, October 27, 2008.

I live in Peoria, IL so this doesn't help me but he did say that it takes about 12 months to install the equipment in all the towers in downstate IL so it will be at least a year for EVDO for me.

Anyone know the speed of US Cellular's 1X network in kbps? I know they say dial up speeds but is it faster then 56k?

uscc is installing the evdo equipment as fast as they can now and it will be in 40% of uscc markets by the end of this year and the rest will be upgraded as fast as they can. i know nortel and i thing Motorola got some of the contracts but it is finely coming and this is according to their CEO john Rooney.

Put it this way, if I repeated what the customer service people did and told me, I would no longer be a member of this forum. I also had many problems with text messaging and especially at the time had a major problem finding a decent phone (their phone selection was less than most carriers).

I think you will see them upgrade. It is just a matter of making sure their ducks are in a row. I have heard they are a good company if you are fortunate enough to have them in your area.

lol, I am not either but I was a happy roamer since the reception on USCC was much better than Verizon from my house. I actually forced my Verizon phones to roam on USCC when at home.
