isnt this phone a "plug" into the 'hole' charger thingy why are you hassling with the 3 or so gold connectors on the other side of the charging port

my Nokia 3390, which i just got from a family member, is older than dirt itself.
i realize this, but this thing is a sturdy as a rock. i break phones constantly because of how clumsy i am, and this phone is old, so if i broke it, nothing would be lost. for it's time, i guess it's an amazing phone, and i know it works.
i was able to charge it for a very short time once, but then it died on me.
    here's the deal.
why i don't think it'll charge is because the gold connectors to the charger in the phone itself don't connect.
i'll post pictures if need be.
i've done everything to move these contacts to touch the charger, so the phone will charge, and abit i got nothing.
is there any way i can move the gold contact in the plug for the charger on the phone (ie pull it out so it'll touch)?
i've taken the phone apart and tried this, and i wasn't able to get to the charger itself.
i've ran out of ideas, but i don't want to throw the old thing in the trash.
    help please?
