Hello...thanks for all the responses..its thanks to people like you all who answer our questions that make the online experience a much more enriched one. So once again, thank you. Anyways, I did that on my rant. Just a little playing with the phone and you will find it. The problem is, when I choose mass storage or connect to a PC it looks for a memory card. Do you need one to access the PC features? Also is there a way to set it so that it only answers the phone when you open it? Like when you flip it open to access the keyboard? thanks...I know this is an old post but people always come here to get answers so I hope you all are still reading and responding to these.

Just google "2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter"
I bought an adapter for that purpose, but it didn't work 100% because of the rings on the connectors. I ended up buying earbuds designed for phones like the Rant with the 2.5mm connector anyways, because..
You know how stereo earbud connectors have the three metal connection areas on the peg? Well, the 2.5mm earbuds have a 4th ring for a microphone, which is what the Rant's female connector has.
So, when I plugged the adapter in, it sounded all mono or muffled or something. So I tried to insert the connector in partially so that I could get stereo audio output, but it's so fussy and it just sounds all mono anyway.
I still haven't found such an adapter. Maybe you might have to make one.

OMG!!!! You saved my freakin life! I had lost my Samsung Rant and they sent me a Samsung Exclaim, claiming the phone had "phone as modem" capability - but when I couldn't get on the net I called Sprint and they told me the Exclaim had no phone as modem capability. I called the insurance co and told them they were idiots for sending me a phone that didn't do what my lost phone did. They sent me a freakin refurbished Samsung Rant that didn't even have a memory slot! I was on tech support with Sprint FOREVER - they could NOT resolve the problem cause they DON'T have the drivers! They kept having me reload Sprint Smart View and the device went into manager but had no drivers!

Then I found your thread...God Bless You! It took awhile for everything to load, but after I restarted the laptop and plugged the USB cable into the Rant then started Smart View...voila! Phone as Modem connected! Thank you SO much!!!!!

Then I got the wild idea to connect the Exclaim to see if Smart View would find the device for modem connectivity...guess what? Oh yeah baby! So I called insurance back, told them I was sending back the Rant and keeping the Exclaim (it's got a HUGE screen) and then had Sprint swap me back into my Exclaim...and it's all because of you!

    If you were standing in front of me right now I would give you the biggest HUG {{{HUG}}}

Have a wonderful New Year and thanks again!

    Samsung Drivers

Heres the USB Drivers folder for the Samsung Rant SPH-m540. This is for Windows XP. To Hookup in Windows Vista or Windows 7, plug in your phone, on the Phone Goto Menu>Tools>Mass Storage>Connect to PC. This should allow you to get into your phones memory card from the computer and access your mp3s, and photos.

    oh wise one
There is a simple way to connect to a pc. No driver is needed. Just ignore the request from Windows, whatever version you have. I have Vista. On you phone you simply go to tools, select mass storage, then select connect to pc. Oh, you are already connected through the USB port with the provided cable. This is simple. I dont want to remove my Micro SD card every time i want to connect to my pc. So I find this to be the simplest way. And for me at least the most preferred way to upload and or download to my phone. This really should clear every thing up. Be happy and dont sweat the small stuff......

You do not need to download a driver. I thought the same thing because Vista whines for a driver when you plug the phone into your computer's USB port. Ignore the window that pops up, press the end call button on the phone until the home screen comes up. press the menu/OK button, select tools, select 6.Mass Storage, select 1.Connect to PC and Voila! your phone will automatically upload the driver needed to your PC. Please note that EVERY time you connect your phone to your PC, you will have to go through the same process above, except the next time it won't have to upload the driver. I have found it a lot easier to just pull the MicroSD card and insert it directly into my PC's card reader since Samsung and/or Sprint gurus decided that they won't let us access the rest of the phone through the USB port, only the MicroSD card. I guess its their lame way of making us peons use their service to upload ring tones, backup your contacts lists, etc. in a ploy to suck more money from us.
    Hope this helps,

You can also try these if you want. They are listed as Samsung 3g Drivers, not sure if they will work for you.

Also, here is a copy of a Samsung PC Suite, Version 3.13 GL6
Once again, not sure if it works with Vista or the Rant, but worth a shot?

As for that post by 1.21Jiggawatts. You mean to tell me that you went through the registration process just to post that nonsense!?!? I mean really, this is a serious forum, not for some person acting like a child to vent.
Need help with a cell phone, post here.
Want to vent or think that you are superior because you think you know big, nasty words, please go somewhere else.

I downloaded the Samsung SPH A900 usb drivers and installed the setup it had in folder 3 and after forcing device mananger to look for the driver , my RAnt (m540) began recognizing the phone. Apparantly there are several different Versions of the Samsung CDMA Modem drivers out there ( not pointed to by the Samsung website for the RANT though) and this one also is comaptible to use in case the others in these posts are not suitable. I found one at rapidshare.com with this following the domain name in teh address bar /files/130178728/samsung-sph-a900-usb-driver.zip

You can find the USB Driver software at the following address:

    hXXp://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/SW/200708/20070813082717640_Samsung_USB_Driver_Installer.exe

Cannot post link due to low post count, so just copy and paste and edit the 'hXXP' to 'http'.

    Enjoy!

Plug and play my foot! I had the problem too until I realize the phone has to drive itself. Would be easier if they actually had a website with a driver, but there is a way to connect it using their method in the manual. the trick is to ignore what windows is trying to do (i did this on xp and eventually got it to work). ignore the add hardware wizard, just keep picking "connect to pc" on your phone until it finally gets to "connected: call disabled" or something like that. at that point it's actually mounted itself as a drive in ur my computer. u can tell the add hardware wizard to stop trying with this device, or just cancel it every time. really annoying way to connect a device but it works if u keep trying.

freaking annoying... i can't get my rant to connect to my pc either. it would be nice if the website that the user guide tells you to go to to download the driver actually existed. alas, i shan't be adding my ringtones tonight...
