To answer your question on the the $50 deductible; it's just like your car insurance.....you have to pay the deductible, then they pay the rest of the cost.

Look at it this way.....it's better than paying the $200 plus you would have to get a new phone if you didn't have insurance.

What you should do as soon as you get the phone out of the water, is to remove the battery, SIM card and media card if you have them). Then shake as much water out of the phone as possible.

Go to the hardware store and buy a tub of Dri-Z-Air Dehumidifier Crystals. (plain raw rice will work, but no rice dust with the crystals). Always a good idea to have these crystals around for soaked handheld electronics an their cheaper than buying a new device.

Place the phone (opened with back off), into a bag or the bucket of crystals and cover it with the crystals. Put the batter and the media card in to the bucket as well. Leave all of this in the bucket for 3 to 5 days (no testing the phone just to see if it still works until the time is up and the phone is completely dried).

After the time is up, put the battery back in and before you turn it on start the Desktop Manager and get ready to backup the phone, not make a call, not play with the menus, not play a couple of ringtones BACKUP the phone.

Once the phone has been backed up (if it can boot), then start using it as you normally would.

Again, rice will work, but you do run the risk of getting rice dust in behind the LCD screen, with the phone buried in the rice.

I've read some posts that say for $50 you get a replacement but what I want to know is if that replacement is the SAME type of phone I have or some piece of crap.

    Thanks in advance!

IF you have access to a freeze-drying freezer (which most don't unless you're in the frozen food industry) -- that will restore your phone to working order

All I can tell you is I've fixed several electronic devices that way, including cell phones. Take that how you will.

Before looking for a replacement, I would try to see if your device can be salvaged. Go put your crackberry in some distilled water (not tap water). Leave it there for 24 hours. Then let it dry out in a warm, dry place that is not in direct sunlight for another 24 hours.

If that doesn't work, then you can get a $50 replacement from Asurion. You can pretty much assume it will be a refurb. You should get the same or a similar model.
