It's too bad no one out there can help Kaylee's mommy, a bit worrisome to hear she's having that problem. Unfortunately, I don't have one, so I can't comment on it. Maybe Kaylee's mommy can try contacting the manufacturer, although, that might be difficult.

My brother has t-mobile, and is looking to replace his phone soon. I've been talking to him about the SciPhone and he'll probably be getting it soon. I wouldn't expect the world for something in the $100 range. You have to bear in mind, iPhone's, without contracts, are very expensive phones, over $500, so when compared to a $100 phone, you have to take that into consideration when reviewing the phone I guess.

feels cheap, coz you have no idea how to customize it! if you do, no one would notice you have an iphone copy even at 1 feet away.

[QUOTE=OtterOnline;1342115]The phone in the picture is an i68+ 3G, not an i68+. IMHO, it is a step backwards in some respects (no removable battery) and a step forward in others (better external connectors).

As I stated before, the Sciphone is a cool phone, especially considering the price, ~100 bucks after you buy an 8 gig sd card for it. However, it IS a clone, as it looks virtually identical, and does everything it can to be like an iPhone. What I am saying is that it does do a good job for the price considering what it does. Also the iPhone will have mms messaging after the 3.0 update comes out.

Some of the stuff you mention, like dual sim, is really no big deal for most since they don't travel and have a need for it. Also, what's the big deal about sim cards. iPhones come in 16 gig versions with a 32 gig version rumored, plus you can store whatever you want on your PC. So what does an SD slot offer.. nothing really.

It would make for a nice backup to the iPhone, but as far as going with it over an iPhone, I'd rather have the iPhone, with it's extended capabilities over the SciPhone, and the access to the app store, and the multitude of apps there. I understand that the SciPhone is a good enough clone that it's gaining popularity, which is cool. More choices are always better, and there's a decent community sprouting up around the SciPhone. So availability of apps for it will only grow. Is it better? No. Is it a good deal for the price and capabilities that it does have, absolutely. I can see the positives of the SciPhone, but you obviously have something against Apple. Price seems to be a big consideration for you, it's not for everyone. You complain about the plans, but that's not Apple, they're not a service provider. And yes, the iPhone is a very closed system, but I'll take my iPhone over a SciPhone anyday.

It does have an accelerometer, and allows you to change backgrounds or songs by shaking the phone. It also has some goodies the iPhone does not, such as dual SIM capability, the ability to use a Micro SD memory module and replaceable batteries. The batteries can be charged in the phone or by themselves. Not bad, eh? It also has Java and MMS. Did Apple forget to include those on the iPhone? I heard they will have an OS upgrade with MMS soon... maybe. The texting screen on the SciPhone also has handwriting recognition. I don't recall seeing that on the iPhone. True, the SciPhone is 2G, but it is unlocked and can use standard calling/data price plans. The last two are what really attracts people to the i68+. It doesn't tie one to AT&T only and does not require Apple's ripoff calling/data plans.

Also, I notice that the MP3 Player is labeled "iPod", and I'm curious as to the legality of usint the term 'iPod' on the device.
    You mean you don't know?

I know that 'iPod' has become a more or less generic term meaning mp3 player, move over kleenex and band aid.. but given that, can the manufacturer legally get away with calling the mp3 player 'ipod' as well as use a standard Apple ipod graphic?
    Take a wild guess...

But then again, we are talking about the Chinese, who are known for ignoring copyrights and trademarks.
Yeah, and? Given that Apple mandates special, extra expensive calling plans for their phones, and even bricks unlocked phones from time to time (is that really a firmware upgrade?), don't expect much sympathy for them from the general public. In this case, the copy is in many ways an improvement on the original. Maybe Apple will improve their product with dual SIMs, micro SD support and removable batteries? If they did, I would get an iPhone then, even with their overpriced calling plan.

Went and looked up the stats on it...
    Quad band GSM...
2 Gigs max if you buy 2 gig card for it, comes with 1 gig...
    320x240 display x 262k colors...
    A2DP Bluetooth...
2 mpx camera... 1280x960 max resolution...
    Firmware upgradable as Brainox mentioned...
"Shake and Tilt control function", so I guess it does have an accelerometer.
    Here's the kicker:
    Supportable OS: Win2k/XP/Vista
Cool, now I can have BSOD on my mobile!
Your source was a little off with regard to the specs. It usuall comes with a 1 Gb micro SD card, but supports cards up to 8 GB. The camera is a crappy 0.3 MP, not 2 MP. And yes, the bluetooth actually works on the i68+.

"Supportable OS" is Chinglish for "Supported OSes", as in the OSes on the computer to which you can connect the phone. A USB cable for this purpose comes with the phone. The phone uses the Mentor Graphics Nucleus RTOS.

There are many "SciPhone i68+" models out there. The company that makes the original has been successful enough that their phone has been copied quite a bit. The copies are generally of inferior quality, though. The originals are on sale at scophone.com for $88. Zydaglo also carries the geniune article, as well as copies. There are other online sellers who carry the original, too.

Does the i68+ have all the features of the iPhone? No, and it is not really a clone. It does have features the iPhone lacks, though, and is a much better value for the money.
